DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
Got my FAC on Friday, so first thing Saturday morning I bought a new cz452 silhouette, put 50 winchester subs(40g 1065fps) through it and got it close to being sighted in, just playing really. I then put some cci stingers(32g 1640fps) through it and they was shooting 3 inches high at 50 yards. Didn't try any other distances as I didn't have long but id be interested to know if anyone sights in with subs and can accurately use supersonic rounds at any distance? Or does anyone just use supersonic rounds all the time.?.. Obviously I have already leaned the subs drop more, are slower and much quieter.... Its all new to me so if anyone has anything else to share on the difference of subsonic vs supersonic ammo, where you would use one or the other and so on.......... Cheers..... DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
Or if anyone has any links to a good ballistic chart, of subs vs stingers.... Cheers.. Quote Link to post
stillair1 16
Hi I would be cautious using stingers as the case length is a smidge longer than .22lr iirc . Check that the cases fit in the chamber without damage. In some rifles the chambers are tight length wise and the manufacturers warn of using this ammo. Personally I had one box of these years ago, used a few and disposed of the rest. Quote Link to post
3175darren 1,101
I could never get cci stingers acurate, they it seems some guns will shoot them ok and some wont,so I stick to subsonics 1 Quote Link to post
dadioles 68
Hopefully you cleaned it thoroughly to remove the protective grease and muck from the barrel before firing your first shot? My advice is to use subsonics but that is a personal decision. As has been stated many many times, purchase a box each of several makes of ammunition and see which gives the tightest group (is most accurate in your gun). Just shoot at a big piece of paper with a cross scribbled on it as a target set at 50 yards. It does not really matter where the bullets land on the target. Always aim at the centre of the cross for every shot no matter where it lands (as long as it hits the target somewhere!). Then buy the ammunition that is most suited to your gun in as large a batch quantity as you can afford or are allowed (500?) and stick to it. Only then is it worth spending time shooting targets, accurately zeroing the rifle and working out the drop at different distances by shooting at targets at those distances. Different shooters will have their own preferences but to get you started zero at 50 yards. Measure the distance accurately not by paces or by guessing, use a laser or a tape measure. At this stage it is science not art. Hopefully at that distance you will be able to shoot 5 shot groups that can be covered by a 50p coin. If not you need practice or a different make of ammunition or something is not quite right with your setup. It is consistency that is required. Finally setup targets at, say, 10 - 20 - 30 - 40 - 50 - 60 - 70 - yards and aiming at the bull (it does not matter where the bullet goes) take 5 shots at each. Broadly speaking, your shots before and after 50 yards will shoot low and at 50 yards it should hit centre. Now you know your drop at all of those ranges and can make a simple little chart of corrections needed to shoot accurately at every distance. 1 Quote Link to post

04fox8 168
Winchesters through my Ruger. Seem to be the only ones I can rely on. Quote Link to post
iana 25
If you can get some Laupa ammo try those. My 455 lives them but they Re difficult to get hold of in my area. I can get my rifle to group 1 1/2 at 75 yards with Winchester. With the Laupa under an inch or round on round. Quote Link to post
riflehunter583 58
I only use subs, been through a few different ones but my cz455 loves Eley 40gr hollowpoint subs so thats the only ammo i buy another one for eley subs, they have a rabbit on the box. very quiet, for .22lr very accurate, and cheap. my browning 52 loves them. some days it will group good others excellent with eley. slightly better than Winchester. if I were you I would do what the post above said. try loads of brands TEST FOR GROUP TIGHTNESS by aiming at one spot, usually there will be at least one bullet type that outperforms the rest then stick to it forever until you die!! joke the cci stinger is a 32 grain bullet. because its falling/traveling faster say 1600 it also slows down faster . so by 100 yards its not got much more power than the subs. also they tend to pass through things to much not dumping the energy in the animal. I found them to be unreliable. if you have to shoot flatter and noisy in .22lr try the cci velocitors. my browning 52 will group these at between 0.25 - 0.6 inch at 50 yards. they also retain more energy out at range 100 yards. if I zero at 50 with the eleys the velocitors will be 1 mill dot hight (10x) at 50 yards without zero adjustment then drop to zero at yards. if you need to shoot fast with a rimmy then try the .22wm of .17hmr. most shoot .22lr as dedicated sub guns. bear in mind that its some times better to have less power and the round stay in the animal, than more power and the bullet pass clean through it when talking about .22lr. 1 Quote Link to post
Cliff Ray 185
I love Eley subs, but a few years ago they were hard to get for a while and I ended up with some Winchester subs. Both grouped pretty much the same at 40 yards, but the Winchester grouped an inch higher and 2 inches to the right of the Winchesters. So whatever ammo you intend to shoot should be the one your zero with. 1 Quote Link to post
shergar 42
aye up like the lads say stick to subs i also use sk lapua subs there the most accurate and constant ammo i have tried in my cz455 at 50yrds getting clover leaf grouping , try different ones and stick to what works best in your gun shergar Quote Link to post
rimmer 33
in answer to your question: If you zero with subs it would be very difficult to use HV ammo with the same zero. there are simply too many variables involved. Sure you can say as a rule of thumb the HV will be say 2" higher at 50yrds but what would it be at 70,50,30,75.40 or 60. its not imposible to sort it all out but add in the range estimation (which most people get wrong) and some wind, the butterfly effect, the earths rotation and flatulent wild life and you have a whole fist full of dinamics that will all serve to f**k you up. I always carry some HV rounds when iam out with the 22 aswel as the subs that i am zero`d with, but to be honest i can count the number of times i have used them on one hand and the amount of times it worked out, on one finger!!.
