Dsc1 Help

Recommended Posts

Hi all just booked in to do my DSC1 later this year. I have just received the manual and have just quickly scanned through it and I have to say there is some amount of learning to do. Is it as bad as it looks? Also the 280 odd question sat the back of the manual, where do I find the answers for these. Any help or tips would be great.

In the manual itself its all there and questions are made that way so uou have to absorb all the information contained in the manual and not to just skip over what appears to be general snippits of information .

I did my DSC1 with Jelen Deer 24th last month

Stu is right - you must read the whole lot - my advice is to read it in 1 hour sessions, total quiet and (if you can) free from stress.

I found that second/third time through I added my own notes like when females drop their young, when males cast antlers, ruts, gestation periods and the sounds they make. Have a table for the open seasons and you will find that its uncanny how many deer share the same dates e.g. females in england and wales nov1-mar31.

lastly don't fret too much about the multi choice questions, and try and practice all those you can find - trust and rely on the staff at your chosen DSC venue as they will be able to help

I did, and they were top drawer

Oh and wrt the shooting test, practice your marksmanship principles and you will do fine. They will look after you ;)

good luck!

totally agreed with the above.

I was the least experienced of all on my DSC last November but a lot of reading, more reading and note taking in class and I got through it.

I was more worried about the shot taking than the paperwork.

there's a place you can pay for a cd or download of questions and answers i think.

I'm sure someone mentioned it to me before i went on my DSC

Jelen Deer do an online multiguess system which i used to practice and its real good (also calms the old nerves) and is a bank of questions which probe your knowledge - visit Jelendeer.com to enquire. Although I did my DSC1 with them, they may have the facility to use the Interactive Learning Centre (ILC) separately. Either way I highly recommend it as its up-to-date and you can access it any time you like.

It can look a little daunting , but with a few days out on the field with a guide etc, & a little common sense, you will have it done in a breeze. Multiple choice answers, process of illumination ;)

Good luck.

At least you won't be left 'in the dark'! ;)
