Tiny 7 1,694
No FL........ ANY working dogs, But just trying too keep it running be it courseing/lamping/mooching anything really. Just thought it would be a good un too run side Vins diet one (Would be nice too hear tho how the top courseing fellahs get theres in tip top. But you tend too get nothing from them as its all one big secret or you get just run them twice aweek thats enough too keep them tight?) Quote Link to post

freelance 448
A couple of local-ish coursing lads i know run theres behind the motor and a few other lads up and down the country do this as well. Ive never tried it myself, i imagine finding a suitable road would be a problem round here. Anybody else do this ? How far and fast and were ect ? Quote Link to post
paulus 26
after near enough killing myself on the contraption of a bike my lads built the other week and not being as athletic as i once was, i have just invested in an electric bike, Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
Dependant on what the dogs quarry is will depend on what conditioning programme you follow ... a lamping dog that is getting numerous short burst runs with very little rest time in between will be working different muscle groups and will need to convert blood oxygen differently to keep the muscle groups working than a coursing dog .... Also the heart and lungs will be working at different rates for a coursing dog compared to a sprinter .... Personally I like to condition my dogs for all round work with a mixture of different training techniques .......... 1 Quote Link to post

In your opinion socks, what different training methods would you use for a coursing dog and a lamper ? There are lots of differing opinions, some lads i know just run them fit, at start of season and are out quite a bit and just build them up week by week. Another couple of different fellows i know, run them quite young and try and build an inbuilt stamina in them from pups, not everyone agree,s with there methods but works for them. The lads i,m on about are just lampers. Some other folk keep them ticking over all summer by biking or behind motor. 1 Quote Link to post

Guest vin
good topic Tiny.. a lot like to keep it all top secret in the coursing world...lets hope one or 2 will share a few pearls of wisdom upon us all. Roadwork and running behing the motor/bike gets them looking fitter and helps toughen up the pads..But there is no alternative to running them fit also at the same time...they need to be behind something to acquire the final levels of fitness and the bike just doesnt give them that..they need something edible and fluffy 6inches from the end of there nose a full speed to inspire them to push that bit harder..lol. I also belive in getting them out young and building up there stamina...no point waiting for the lungs to develop..help them along the way and develop them even bigger. ( this is a very fine line with a pup making sure you never over do it at the same time ). For an example ..look at them 2 pups of Fuji's . . . he,s had them out from day 1 stomping up and down hills and mountains etc etc.. they will have bags of stamina of that I am certain. . . I would like to see how pups from the same litter have done with none of the same treatment ? Some leave them until there a lot older to even start fitness training and conditioning. All I know is my old mate you used to say about a dog " is it fit ? " or is it " running fit ? " the 2 things can be miles apart. Also for a little more fuel... a lot of them Bull X types can look fit down to the genitics of the breding and extra muscle bulk etc etc... but not always be as fit as they look to be.(hope that makes sense ).
