lapin2008 1,587
I've renovated a couple of my own houses and i would say the best thing to do is talk to them. Doesn't really apply to the house i'm in at the moment as it's a bungalow but my last house was a semi so some of the noise could pass through the wall to the neighbour. I spoke to them about it and they were absolutely fine with it. I usually worked during normal working hours though quite often done some work in the evenings and weekends with no problems. Best thing to do is go in...introduce yourself...show an interest in what's going on and he will probably show you around. Once you've struck up some sort of friendship, kindly ask if he could delay work starting so early at the weekend as it's the only time you and your family can get a lie in. If he has any respect and wants to get off on the right foot with his new neighbours then he'll listen and respect your wishes. Did you read what you signed? I wouldn't have signed anything until i spoke to him about what his plans were. He's not been there once since work started mate. They've just got contractors in. That's why I was going to speak to the niece who lives nearby. I aren't unreasonable and wouldn't go in all guns blazing. I would be polite. But equally if he doesn't see my point of view and wants to be a c**t then I can be a bigger c**t. But it seems the general consensus is to say nothing and let them crack on. Earlier they start, sooner the job gets finished I guess Strange double post fail.

gnipper 6,487
Isn't there a noise law about starting before a certain time on a weekend which is later than in the week? I'm sure I remember something like that from when I was plastering.

Malt 379
Could do with that builder being on my job, my lot are down tools and gone by 4.30 every week day and they have done 1 Saturday out of 5 so far lol. Sounds like the work will be done in no time. Spot on, just what I was going to say.. Better to have a racket for longer hours per day and have it for a shorter period of time IMO... Grin and bear it Gaz, once it's done it's done mate..

Blackbriar 8,569
You've got to be diplomatic, buddy - bad feeling lasts a long time! Maybe speak to Stavros and say that 8am is OK, but explain that, because your daughter has to go to bed, 7pm is pushing it a bit. if you're prepared to be flexible, he has no reason not to be. Builder is just doing his job, so speak to the organ-grinder, not the monkey. One thing for certain - getting all " Oi twat,I want a f****ing word with you" will achieve absolutely nothing!! Good luck in whatever you decide !
RossM 8,120
Sounds to me like the builders are on a schedule, at the end of the day they are probably looking to make the house a home and deny it all everybody likes most people would do the same to get their home in a liveable state, if it was me, I'd ride it out, it can't go on forever, and put your self in their shoes it's alright putting off banging in a nail to hang a picture but I'm sure you'd much rather be in your house in 4 weeks and be a little disruptive than 12 weeks without making a little waves.
