Shanes Castle Raceday Yesterday Saturday 29Th June 13

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to the Winner of the Master Mc Grath at Shanes Castle yesterday, and also Congratulations to all the rest of the Racing winners. A big thank you to Albertj Tittering and the NILRC for a great days Racing. A job well done.

A big thank you also to all the generous people at the show yesterday who give all their loose change to a collection for the Greyhound that was found on the road in Northern Ireland with its ears Cut off. This money is going to the Rescue Centre that is caring for this poor Greyhound at the moment. Hopefully he will pull through. For people who was not there yesterday, a further collection will be made to day.

where does the gate money go ?

Estate Rental, Insurance, advertising, marquees, electrics, toilets, stewards, first aid, directional signs, printing costs, sponsoring FREE stands for the sporting organisations; barriers, arena performers, showers, ground preparation AND THE BEST PRIZES IN IRELAND FOR TERRIERS< LURCHERS and WHIPPETS; CLAY SHOOTING ; GUNDOGS & ANGLING; and sponsorship of sporting organisations; shows, gundog tests and trials, fishing competitions etc throughout the year. OVER THE THIRTY FIVE YEARS OF THE FAIR WE HAVE BEEN THE LARGEST SPONSOR OF COUNTRYSPORTS ACTIVITIES IN IRELAND.

And if there is anything over after that - towards a contingency fund against getting really bad weather.

I believe that if someone asks a question they should be given an answer. I do not need the fairs and never have for my livelihood and have never taken anything out of them other than some expenses - that is why we can afford to put so much money into our prize fund and other sponsorships. In fact they have always been a sort of hobby for me - albeit a risky one sometimes with current Summer weather! We organise the fairs because we are dedicated country sports enthusiasts and happen to think they are the best platform to defend country sports.

I personally find it a delight to work to defend our sports with people who are equally passionate about them and I was extremely proud to host such a wide range of sporting and campaigning organisations present including the NARGC, CAI, IWTF, UAF,NSN,NWAOI, FISSTA etc.

catch yourself on nanspat

why....its the truth...they work hand n glove with the rspca...holding dogs for them ect..could the money not be given direct to the vet.

that's a good point funding the very people that are fighting to get us all made criminals by getting hunting banned. 50p would have been sufficient enough to pay for the round to stop the suffering

So that is covered by the gate money? Where does the stall holders money go then? Because they pay a lot to have their wares for sale at your shows

Away and dry her eyes the lot of ye..who cares where the money goes,I know I wouldn't take the money of a lotto win to organise a game fair, and then listen to the constant yapping for a few days/weeks afterwards, until ye all find something else to complain about.keep up the good work Albert

why does it matter where the gate money goes lol its not an advertised charity event it a very large expensive to run gamefair. that you can go to if you like if you dont like then do something else. it costs a hell of a lot to run a small show in a field and without the likes of albert and the gamefairs sponsership i and alot of others couldnt give out what we do. had a great weekend at the fair. the wee girl won the main arena obedience competition with the whippet.better for me than any show cup i ever won. so thanks albert j and keep up the good work.

Lee...

The Game Fairs in Ireland, or I should say Albert, has probably done more to promote field sports and working dogs than some of the bodies that people subscribe to, to do just that...

You will go a long, long way before you find anyone here who has done as much for field sports as he has, and you will go a longer way before you find any other organisation who organise similar events that puts back as much as The Irish Game Fair does.

Albert gets a lot of respect from everyone in Ireland involved in field sports and terriers and Lurchers, because its deserved. You wont meet a more honest and genuine fellow, who talks straight and tells it like it is, and there isn't many people who do that anymore.

Where else do people get a platform to show the true side of working dogs, shooting, hunting and fishing to the public without the usual slant put on it by the media...

And from what I know of things he has put up with over the years from the anti hunting lobby amongst other things...Anyone else in his position would have "pulled the pin" years ago....

PLEASE NOTE : FROM THE PEN OF MARGARET Mc STAY
      DATE : 10.3.25
AFTER HAVING A VERY ABUSIVE AND DISTRESSING PHONE CALL THIS MORNING AT 8.25am FROM SOMEONE WHO SENT ME AND ASKED ME TO PUT A WINNING PHOTOGRAPH UP ON MY SITE OF A VERY WORTHY WINNING PERSON AT CRUFTS, UNFORTUNATELY THERE WERE SOME VERY UNSAVOURY COMMENTS MADE UNDER MY POST. THAT POST HAS NOW BEEN TAKEN DOWN.
AS I SAID BEFORE AND I WILL SAY IT AGAIN, I LOVE COUNTRY SPORTS AND HAVE DEDICATED A BIG PART OF MY  LIFE FOR OVER 30 YEARS  DOING EVERYTHING I CAN TO BETTER THE SPORT. WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS, AND THANKFULLY IT DOES NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN, IT PULLS ME DOWN TO THE DEPTHS. I TAKE MY OWN PHOTOGRAPHS  AT OUR SHOWS AND DO MY WRITEUPS IN A PROPER MANNER AND WOULD NEVER CRITICIZE OR BRUTALISE THE HARD WORK THAT ALL OUR SHOW ORGANISERS PUT INTO GETTING THEIR SHOWS ON THE ROAD.
HAVIING SAID ALL OF THIS, I  MUST NOW  STRESS, ANY DEROGATORY OR HURTFUL REMARKS THAT IS MADE BY ANY INDIVIDUAL UNDER ANY OF MY POSTS WILL BE TAKEN DOWN IMMEDIATELY.  IF UNSAVOURY POSTS NEED TO BE MADE, PLEASE MAKE THEM ON YOUR OWN SITES AND NOT IN MY NAME, AS THE VERBAL ABUSE I HAVE TO TAKE IS NOT NICE, AND ESPECIALLY TO SOMEONE WHO ONLY  DOES GOOD FOR THE SPORT.
AS WE KNOW COUNTRY SPORTS IS BEING PULLED THROUGH THE MUCK AT THE MOMENT,  WE AS PEOPLE HAVE THE  POWER, SO FOR THE GOOD OF COUNTRY  SPORTS  TRY AND PULL TOGETHER  AND HELP EACH OTHER OUT, AND WE WILL WIN IN THE  END. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTINUE TO POST YOUR COMMENTS ON MY SITE AS LONG AS THEY ARE STRAIGHT AND CLEAN AND FOR THE GOOD OF THE SPORT.
      Yours in Country Sports

A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE JIMMY SCOTT, A TOP DOGGIE MAN IN OUR COUNTRY SPORTS FRATERNITY, WHO LEFT THIS WORLD ON Christmas Day.   I Am Free Do not grieve for me now my friends and family, I am free. I am following the path God Laid for me. I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all.   I could not stay another day to show, to live , to hunt, to fish or play. I found my peace at close of day. Be not burdened with this time of sorrow I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. Perhaps my time seemed all to brief. Do not lengthen it now with undue grief.   Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me. God wanted me now, He set me free.   From all in Country Sports Margaret Mc Stay

The Combined Clubs Dog Show and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions Saturday 7thSeptember 24
Laurencetown is famous for its green fields, ancient buildings, walled gardens and extensive lawns stretching down to the River Bann. But as well as these famous landmarks, Laurencetown can add another string to its bow by adding the annual Combined Clubs Dog Show and Northern Ireland Champion of Champions to its attractions and venue.
Saturday was one of the warmest days of the year with the sun shinning down continuously. I got burned alive but all well worth it. Our Country Sportsmen, women and children came out to this now annual dog show to enjoy the last days of the summer sunshine.
Our summer Dog shows have become canine excursions from all parts of the country North and South of the Border. Saturday was no exception with a good turnout of Terriers, Lurchers, Whippets and Strong dogs.
And wait for it, the big surprise of the day and what a pleasant surprise that was. The McGrath Racing Club arrived unexpectedly for a family day out to support the show. And guess what they acted on the spot with an impromptu few races to the joy of many of the racing fraternity at the show.
The childrens handling class was first on the list and judged by Marian Cree. What a turnout of children in the ring on Saturday. I can still see the smile on Clodagh Gentle face on winning 1st with her   Whippet Clive. These young boys and girls are our sportsmen and women of tomorrow. I have no doubt in my mind that these little people will carry on the sport after our day. Well done Marian and congratulations to all.
