Guest scramble
The problem is there's so many variables that can effect the outcome you'd never really know without some serious testing and expensive equipment Quote Link to post
moxy 617
Or is it chrono paranoia!? Quote Link to post
Guest scramble
Or is it chrono paranoia!? fall of shot aint paranoia..................could be shit shooting though 1 Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
No its not Chrono related , as the performance has been questioned for a while now . Its been a gradual change , indicating a slight problem at the start that is gradually getting worse . This peticular set up was spot on and very accurate not so long ago . Nothing has been changed , it seems its on the slippery slope ........... Quote Link to post
moxy 617
LMAO. What you say to that Craig. And be honest Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
Or is it chrono paranoia!? fall of shot aint paranoia..................could be shit shooting though And that would account for the numbers ? The initial thought was the shooter in question was pulling a shot every now and then , causing POI difference . But on closer inspection , it seems something is the `cause` .......... This set up has been witnessed grouping a 15mm target at 50 yds . Now the same set up is struggling to group at 25 ............... Bi pod , bench , you name it , its not happening . So Scramble , what would be the first thing you would look at if it were your rig ? Edited June 29, 2013 by Buster321c Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Never known anything like this with a spring rifle. Hot weather makes springers warm up and shoot efficiently, much quicker with fewer pellets than would be the case in winter, when performance is, to coin a phrase, sluggish. Could it be that, the sun's heat is causing expansion in the barrel, thus causing a degree of micro-warping? Or the regulator's metals causing incipient air leaks and thus reducing the rifle's performance??? :hmm: The only thing I know anything about effects of hot sunlight, is snipers' rifles incorporate a heat-dissipating jacket around the barrel to keep them true in changing extremes of weather temperature. And military shooters use the sun's heat in hot climes to get the ammo really hot. Putting a few rounds on a stone and letting them bake a while, gives a longer fuse-ignition time and increases the effective range of a bullet. You'd be amazed beyond belief by how much extra range distance this can cause. Edited June 30, 2013 by pianoman 1 Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
Me and Davy have had the same results today Craig. Air temp really affects a rifles power. For accurate shooting your rifle needs calibrating at a normal temp for the time of year. We had the same results with our springers. Grease temp resulting in grease thickness and flowidity, air temp and air pressure and location altitude all play a part in POI. Si. Viscosity show off Quote Link to post
davyt63 1,845
hi Craig why dont you get a white wrap over the bottle, this will reflect the heat from the cylinder? if its your rapid? when was the breech seal last changed? Quote Link to post

And could it be the heat expanding the internal diameter of the barrel slightly giving the pellet less friction and as a result the higher velocity? Quote Link to post
fry 209
this is possibly bollocks but if the sun was beating down on the top of the barrel could the top half of it be a higher temp than the bottom causing a thermostat effect, i.e the top expanding more than the bottom causing a curve? an then as it all makes the same temp straightening out?? .......... shall i get me coat??
