mole trapper 1,693
Well, when we had this discussion a few weeks ago Foxyforce and myself were saying how we would like to get hold of some of these, well now roger is interested also, SO come, on there is a market here, there has got to be someone with the know how, and wants to make a few quid, , if they were made with two doors and made to the standard of the ones in Chalkys picture, you can put me down for two dozen to start with. magus69 0
I was left about a dozen of these traps by my Uncle he loved em where as I have allus prefered a well set net. I have had times when bunnys have been lost when the nets have failed to purse due to getting snagged, or multiple bunnys have exited the same hole in quick succession before I've had the chance to block and re-set. The traps were made by ourselves without welding we cut the mesh to leave wire tails when you form the tube/tunnel you then wind the tails round the the opposite side which you have cut flat closing the tube/tunnel together. The end door is a circle cut from the same mesh but with only 2 tails 4-5 inches apart which form hinges. The door we kept shut with two of them thumb operated key rings that attach to your belt loop. The entrance is almost the same only make the height a little too long sort of oval shape so it sits in the trap at an angle and will not pass back through, once again wire tails for the hinges. The diameter of the tunnel is approx 12-14". I adapted mine into crayfish traps and allus put down the lost/missed bunnys which fail to get bagged to experience knowing that I've got future sport and hope it gets un-noticed. They are quite easy to make on your own and well worth the effort even if you decide not to use them you've got the base for some fine crayfish traps. (although I believe you need to apply for a licence from the EA).Mike... Edited August 19, 2007 by magus69 Quote Link to post
R_Oldroyd 17
I have to say that i have been intrested to see what has come back on this thread. Thanks guys for your imput. Having looked the pictures and thought long and hard about welding which is an art in its own right. I have gone with butchering the rabbit friendly traps. Only two components are any good and i just don't think the chicken wire works for me. So i have made the cages myself and add the bits that i can't make or weld. I think that they are a much better tunnel traps that have two flip lid comparments so that rabbit don't sit at the front door They are really good but just don't stand on them Edited September 12, 2007 by R_Oldroyd Quote Link to post

mole trapper 1,693
Morning MC, Really the place to start i suppose would be to get dimensions etc off CW as he has the genuine article, and he is a very nice man, , he also has lots of photos, , deffinetly got to have the second flap door half way though as this is what really makes them work, Mesh size can be fairly large but must not be so big as to let a jill pass through for obvious reasons, must be robust without being OTT. DUCKWING 302
WELL LADS , IF I WAS MC ........ I WOULD ASK FOR A TRAP TO BE SENT UP IN THE POST ........... NOTHING LIKE SEEING THE THING IN THE FLESH ... SO TO SPEAK ALL THE BEST DUCKWING Quote Link to post

woodman 131
I would humbly beg to differ with Duckwing's seemingly foolproof suggestion.... Personally,..I feel the best and easiest way for interested parties to see these wondrous 'tunnels of Ecstasy' would be if they took a look at the types on offer from the Hampshire based company 'Fox Shot' of Wickham. I do believe they can supply the double door style of trap that folk are talking about. All the best ,...Chalkwarren.... have foxshot a website chalkwarren.all the best Quote Link to post

I'm just going with the flow,... But,..I'm sure there are lots of lads who can make-up their own rabbit 'bolt traps' without having to buy them. The ones that we use in the chalk are a wee bit 'heavier duty' than the commercial product,..we found it best to have them constructed this way Cheers,.CHALKWARREN... Quote Link to post
