theobob47 5
ok fellas I've been ferreting for a good few years now and I've never used a ferret finder ,all my ferrets come to me when called and when they've killed they hav'nt layed up for long ,maybe I've been lucky ,but are finders worth getting I've been seriously thinking about getting a couple, all my perms are hedge sets so digging not really an option ,what do you think would be a decent price for a couple collars and locator, atb rob Quote Link to post
GreyRake 108
Ive not got one yet either but will before the season starts. Shame about the prices, I grudge paying that for what it actully is. But my jill hasn't masterd killing rabbits yet but the day might come. For the peace of mind and just to have an idea of what's going on makes it worth it. Once I get mine I'm going to open it and have a look. I work in electronics so if I can copy it, I will. stinkers 102
Well im like yourself never used a finder in the past. Till i got given a mk1 and gone from there. Highly recommended bit of kit and saves a lot of hassle trying to locate a stinker by calling. Especially if like you say your doing long hedgerows there invaluable bit of kit. Plenty on offer on ebay the mk3 i have now is damned fine piece of kit when you get the hang of using it. Quote Link to post
GreyRake 108
Do your ferrets actully come when called whilst hunting? Mine come running in the house when called. My hob comes eventually when I let them run in a field. But whilst the fun of hunting happens, my call means nothing to them. Best I can do is try mimic a rabbits distress call. Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
I wouldnt be without one. Its not just a ferret retrival device it also puts a few extra rabbits in the bag. Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
Even if you dont dig there great to tell you your ferrets still underground and working away Quote Link to post

bobcullen79 1,495
Wouldn't be without one. As The One said, even if you cant/wont dig, its nice to know their still in there. Only downside is that they are shite near pylons, electric fences and made up ground with lots of metal. As for a price, your looking at between £ - 140 I should think. I noticed your flag, there was a mk3, collar and 20 nets on preloved in Exeter for £.. Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
I dont think my Ferts like me, as they wouldnt leave a Rabbit when called, till it was dead, Where with the finder, once they have settled and not moving, I can dig and get the rabbit out, in half the time, as waiting till they have killed and then coming out. MR TEA POT 1,287
Why is digging not a option with hedge sets?? Quote Link to post
Guest norseman
Why is digging not a option with hedge sets?? I was just about to ask the same. I dig loads at hedgerows, I never worked ferrets without one but their worth it. Quote Link to post
blond 8
definitely get one, I used to be the same never used 1 before I got mine and this 1 time the hob killed down the hole and my mate had got his finder with him, put it on my jill and she went strait to him, only a dig of a foot which wasn't 2 bad, invested in a mark 1 strait away and I wouldn't be without 1 ever since as towards the end of the season it was a dig everytime Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
Don't be miserable, I know to be still using mark 1s you are classed as a dinosaur, but go ferreting in this day and age without any is plain stupid, I wouldn't go out without one. Its like using a knotted line, how many use this now. if you are getting into the sport get your money spent and buy a finder, you wont be dissapointed. Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
I wouldn't go out with out them either and every ferret collared up and hoping that i never use it but ive got it there just in case . some of the time they make most of the bag from digging the rabbits out . but i think they come into there own if your on a piece of land thats been ferreted before and not done right , ive always thought rabbits that have seen ferrets before and no bolted soon learn to tuck up in a dead end and need dug out , As last season we started a new piece of permission and you could see where the rabbits had there ar*es scratched and where bald and some had new hair growing back Quote Link to post
