Guest vin Posted June 27, 2013 Report Share Posted June 27, 2013 What would happen if your Game hawk/falcon was out flying a Crow/Magpie etc etc and a Buzzard got in the way..Would your big BOP be able to finish off the buzzard..and would you them be in trouble with the LAW ? If it happened by accident would you be liable ? I seem to remember reading in a very old book about hunting red/black kites and buzzards with Peregrines ? arcticgun 4,548 Posted June 28, 2013 Report Share Posted June 28, 2013 accidents will happen, id assume most times the wild bord would be the winner, could be wrong though, mine has a little mate a female kestrel whom buzzed him a few times last year whilst he was on lure eating his tea lol she stopped him twice and he then chased her around a a farm and into distance, mind he never tried to nail her, was fun to watch though, she been around a few times always same result Quote Link to post

Where does the law stand these days on this ? falconers have got to follow the general licence aswell and it's your responsibility to make sure nothing like that happens so yes you would be liable as the buzzards arent on the license. its just like keeping eagles for fox hunting with hounds its wrong, there only seen as a loophole and not used as theres supposed to just like what your suggesting. 1 Quote Link to post

Guest vin Posted June 28, 2013 Report Share Posted June 28, 2013 Im not a Falconer as you can probably tell..Ferrets and dogs myself. but i did have an obession with BOP when I was young man but never anyone who could educate me in the ways. I flew a female Spa many years ago (given to me by a friend to fly on his behalf for a season while he was busy doing other things)...that was very exciting. I Always dreamed of flying a Falcon but never had the money or the time..or the land. . . Ive seen it done on a good few occasion with friends hawks Falcons and it always impresses me when someone gets it right... But must admit ive seen some serious plonkers with harris hawks out ferreting and they havnt got a clue about how to catch game in the 1st place. . .and some of these chaps have been supposed experts who go doing displays with there lure birds and wierd collections of Owls...lol but I also know an old bloke who has kept lurchers and ferrets,spaniels etc etc all his life before birds..when he goes out with his Harris hawk he never fails. It's keeping within the law as we are all supposed too .... dont get me wrong i would love to see fox hunting with hounds made legal again as much as the next bloke but the fact is the eagle is being bought to be used as a loophole, its obvious nobody will release an eagle on to a fox with a pack of hounds out with it, just dangerous and massively stupid for both the eagle and the dogs. i bet they arent trained to fly or hunt, just to sit nice and get the hunt out of trouble when an accident occurs. then there are some hunts who just plain take the piss, saw a video on youtube where a hunt had a harris hawk to exploit the loop hole, what a load of bollocks nobody will honestly believe a harris can take a fox but due to the loophole i could in theory take a kestrel on a hunt and make it perfectly legal for a fox to be hunted with a pack, its people owning them for the wrong reasons, as bad as the five minute falconer chavs who buy a hawk to look good but knowing full well they wont ever be able to do any good by it Quote Link to post
