Stretch177 39
Anybody elses terriers go mad over hedgehogs. Mine goes absolutley bonkers when she gets them, found 5 last night, 2 the night before. Normally she just leaves them, but recently she has switched onto the bushing big style, having got a few rats and bolted a few bunnies. She used to just bark and paw at them, but has started to grab hold of them, blood everywere last night, thankfully no spines in her mouth like. Quote Link to post

walshie 2,804
I've only seen 1 hedgehog round here in the last 20 years. Used to see loads of them squashed by the side of the road, but even they've gone. Quote Link to post

Stretch177 39
Aye true about the fleas mate, gave both the terrier and German Shep a blast of frontline this morning just in case. My first terrier so not used to it, thought the spines might put her off but it made her worse lol Quote Link to post
The one 8,503
My last spaniel used to retrieve them to you , this spaniel just digs round them till shes got them on a pillar , if you loose her you can bet shes found a hedgehog , the lurcher and lab just ignore them Quote Link to post
j1985 1,984
I broke my current Lurcher to em as a pup as I had a bull that was crackers for em and spending a few hours pulling spines out of a 90lb lump of muscles gums, roof of mouth etc is no fun, and not to mention the time she shook its guts all over my face as I tried getting her off one....a half x I get out with goes potty for them and has them inside out in seconds, just gotta watch he don't find one near you as he smashed one up against his owners leg which must have felt great haha Quote Link to post

Cleanspade 3,324
i dont allow my terriers to bother hedgepigs. dont see many around me now Quote Link to post
Born Hunter 17,798
I'm forever bollocking the terrier for chewing hedgepigs! She hasn't managed to kill one but chews them enough to blood her jaws up. The lurcher has more sense than that, she just pisses on them. Quote Link to post
BIG G wheton machine 1,594
ive 2 jrts that absolutely hate them, no barking just tear them to shreds, my sis rang me one day squealing these 2 fckrs have killed rats theres blood guts n fur everywhere, I went to her house and went out the back and saw it all over the place it was 3 hedgepigs tore to bits and 2 ballooned faced jrts sitting wagging their tails proud as punch lol they hate them Quote Link to post
squab 2,875
years ago had a bull x lurcher that started kicking off at night for no reason,i would go down the garden to check everything was secure tell her to shut up and crawl back to bed, never heard a peep out of her again but regularly found dead hedgehogs in her run that she had literaly turned inside out. never caused her any injurys so guess they learn the knack. shame really now i think about it as i dont see many at all now days, perhaps i should of put a bit mesh around the run to stop them getting in that bit sooner. 1 Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,524
Cost me a fortune in frontline and drontal last time my terrier chewed the head off one. What made it worse was the claret all over him when he jumped out of the cover with it as some dog walkers arrived. Quote Link to post
