Some really good posts here! As for the British thing, I look at it this way; in grave times of years gone by, every Brit has stood shoulder to shoulder as one to defend our island. Yes some of us are Welsh, Scottish, English and we all love the different identities but at the same time we are ALL British and I think that's what makes us Great

I think since getting his 1st gran slam &Olympic wins his mindset has changed were by he believes he can win , his coach has certainly taken him up a notch on the mental attitude required to reach the very top. Hopefully this will be his year , I don't care were his from as long as its our small island ...

The bigger question is this: due to Nadal's knee and Federer's age, are we now looking at a "Big Two" rather than a "Big Four" ie Djokovic and Murray? It's possible. Personally I don't think Nadal or Federer will win a major again, except maybe Nadal with the French next year.

I don't think Murray's talent has ever been in doubt, but I think his heart has. He even said himself he doubted he would ever win Wimbledon. If he doesn't believe in himself, who else will?

 

Unfortunately he has said in the past he doesn't consider himself British, but Scottish, which has alienated him from other Brit nationalities.

 

I wonder if he won he might actually smile?

Loads of us "Brits" do the same though walsh, theres nothing wrong with being proud of where you're from, the media do there best to try and alienate him though especially with the football thing a few years ago.

 

Certain sports like Athletics and Tennis, the competitors compete as GB and imo they should all be classed has British not Scottish etc, I'm a Welshman that happens to live in GB the same as you're a Englishman who comes from GB.............regardless of where he's from we should all get behind him especially when this country is losing so much of its identity of late.

I agree. I'm English AND British and proud to be both. I'm just saying if he's competing as team GB he should be proud to have the opportunity to fly the British flag. If he was representing Scotland it would be different.

You seem how proud he was at the Olympics. When he made those comments he was playing second fiddle to the Daz seller, hedman. He was just portrayed as a wee laddie from Scotland now hes doing good every c**t wants him to bow and kiss the union flag. He's Scottish through and through but don't let that stop you from boasting he's British

If he's British, he's British, however much he likes to tell us otherwise. I couldn't care less what he thinks he is, he is playing at Wimbledon for BRITAIN. If he doesn't want to, no-one's making him.

 

I'll be cheering him on beacuse of course I want my nation to do well, but as a person......meh.

Murray's playing tennis at Wimbledon not trying to win a popularity contest, so IMO he should be judged on that not whether Aunty Mabel finds him amiable or not.

If Murray wins it will in no way be tainted as he still has to beat Djokovich (world no 1) in the final. It's definitely his best chance to date as he's probably the best grass court player in the world just now. He should have a fairly easy run to the final as Fed and Nadal are out though as a Scot or Brit I wouldn't rule out an upset or an injury. If he gets to the final and keeps his nerve then I think he will win. He has the game to win except maybe his 2nd serve which is still poor. If his 1st serve is working well he'll win ;-)

You're probably right John, but to the average tennis viewer who only watches it once a year, he certainly comes across that way. Representing GB doesn't mean any different.
