jukel123 8,308
I've had some success at training dogs to obey a whistle. Has anybody successfully incorporated into their whistle repetoire a tone for'No!' Stop what you're doing right now you fecker!' I've often thought such a whistle command would be useful for instantly correcting a young dog. Any thoughts?

beast 1,884
any command which a dog can learn as a word can be easily taught to a different cue. when you have to correct the dog, simply blow the whistle (or any other noise you fancy) then as quickly as possible say "no" or whatever the dog has been taught previously. the dog will quickly learn that the word and the sound mean the same thing, then you can stop using the word and just use the noise. when i was a teenager i taught one of my dogs to stop whatevr it was doing if i clapped my hands, cant for the life of me remember why though! Stretch177 39
Aye, just change the length or type of whistling you do, ie a long whistle or 3 blows consecutive. Do this and then follow with the word no, they will soon pick it up if practiced often. Just look at some of the gundog videos etc.
