Carraghs Gem 1,675
Mine gets as much dry food as he wants as id rather he have too much food than not enough, regarding raw meat... Depends how many stinkers your feeding, I wouldnt put a whole adult rabbit in with mine at a time, instead id put maybe half a carcass every couple of days ... And clean out more frequently This is based on 1 stinker... Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
If theyre crapping a lot Im guessing you also feed dry food? I feed about 10 at night and take out any leftovers next morning. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Don't worry about flies, their just extra protein if your ferrets are fat, then cut back your dry food, if you only feed fresh or frozen meat, then you won't have that problem 1 Quote Link to post

Yes they get dry alpha ferret food with some cat food and the odd rabbit. instead of the odd rabbit...make it the other way round mate...the odd bit of dry complete.. that stuff is just crap..full of shite and goes straight through them. rabbit, woodies, squirrels, roadkill etc etc anything with some flesh on it. please dont take this the wrong way..but fek the cat food off. I dont know how cats eat the stinky shite,Never mind giving it the Ferts. theres really no excuse for not feeding a Fert a good diet.. its free if you invest a little time during the winter and stock up the freezer. The one 8,477
During the summer mine sleep more during the day and are more active at dusk ,night so there no eating so much but i allow a leg or rabbit head sized portion for each of them and just remove everything in the morning Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I cut the rabbit up into bits and keep it in a old fridge in my garage, I take a frozen one out every couple of days already cut up. I have 4 ferrets at the moment. I would give say half a rabbit for 4 in a day(more in winter when getting loads of work)enough to keep them going but not to lay around attracting fly's. When you go to feed them I like them to waiting for it. My ferrets are fit and strong with nice clean coats on them. I clean them out everyday and it shows they are kept in a 5 story hutch with ramps to keep them fit. don't feed dry much, maybe once a week , I make sure the water bottles are full of clean fresh water. The one 8,477
Aye thats pretty much what we do as im gutting the rabbits my son chops them up we freeze all the big rabbits in poly bags and wrap the jointed portions in clear food bags then freeze them in a bin bag take out a whole rabbit for the jills and portions for the rest . A wee bit work at the time but dead easy after that Quote Link to post

I agree cat food and most convenience food doesn't do them any good and makes them shite too much! mine get rabbit sometimes cooked as a treat, chicken wings, mince, liver/organs from butchers and generally a meat that we would prepare for ourselves. james wellbeloved dry food is left out constantly they do poop a lot but at least they're being given the right thing Quote Link to post

GreyRake 108
Never had a ferret over eat in my opinion, they just eat what they need. They get a bit fatter in the winter then slim down for the summer. Too much vegetable content in cat food and even more in dog food, doesn't get used, just crapped out, then they eat more. So far I've tried a few kibbles and found Vitalin leaves them crapping the least, but its a bit more expensive than the average kibble. Mine have kibble down 24/7 As for meat you just have to learn from experience how much they eat really then just put that amount in each day so you don't waste any. Mandy Todd 2
I read on the Internet that food only stays in a ferrets digestive system for 3 hours, so what goes in must come out (quickly!!!) Quote Link to post
