hily 379
OK fishing for feedback any one with spare space in the kennels to take on gundog boarders while owners away (short term).to set up a network of like minded folk who are willing to take a dog inn but only dogs that are used to being kept outside in kennels no silly pampering just clean good care and feeding with exercise if required Not trying to take business away from boarding kennels that offer hotel like services to pets that reflect in the prices they charge (this area £16 per day) .I have to admit that this is an idea for me to make a little income to help with my retirement plans. If you think its a daft idea then just shoot me down I wont be upset..pros and cons would be good. 2 Quote Link to post
liddlesdale 1
Hi Ive just set a kennels for working dogs to do just that, totally agree why spend hours training a dog to sit, stay and be steady and then put it into a boarding kennels and they are exercised by someone who dosent understand working dogs, and starts playing fetch with a tennis ball and next time your out picking up your dog starts running in. I see your in Northumberland I'm Scottish Borders only just, 3 miles past Kielder. Quote Link to post

To be honest Hily, its something at the front of my mind when i retire,i do it with a couple of dogs already that i have trained for people.they come at holiday times etc and get a bit of a refresher ( rabbit pen or cure a fault ).But it`s outlined at the start, it`s not full on formal training that they are getting in all aspects. One thing i do and will not do is take dogs in if i cannot devote the time,i`ve seen dogs come back from so called professional dog trainers no further on and a grand lighter in the owners pockets.Straight away i have said to them how many dogs did you see in their kennels, and the answer is always lots "thats why". Like now,a serious trainer will be doing full day sessions on rabbits, later to partridge,so a day at that mean`s "yours" ain`t getting trained. Brill idea ! hily 379
camokevJust to expand the idea for me it won't be training .I only have room for a couple of dogs also to exercise I have pens with kennels plus a grass run so no walkies unless asked for. Liddlsdale I agree with you working dogs can be spoilt very quickly by folk who think they are being kind to the poor unloved gundog. So up to know three kennels could be available to shooting/gun dog owners looking for sensible places for the dog that works for them. 1 Quote Link to post
