Had jack a walk last night at the back of my house, he was off the lead sniffing rabbit scents, when he met a Patterdale on a expandible lead.
before I could catch him, he ran up to the Dog and gave it a sniff, it then turned on him.
managed to pull it off, when the dog ran out with the leash at full length and grabbed him by the bag leg.
Got it off him again, and the pup took off and ran off, he had a chunk bitten out his ear and a deep puncture wound in the back leg, had him to the the Vet this morning, Antibiotic injection, and course of tablets £18. 50 which isnt bad.
I just hope there is no psychological damage, have to leave him in the garden for a few days as he is sore, don't know how he will now react when meeting other dogs.
Why can't they think of putting a light muzzle on a aggressive dog.
and a proper leash, that you can bring the dog under control.
I know the pup was off the leash, but he didn't deserve that.
vet has advised to get him mixing with ok dogs when he is not sore.

its bad crack you cannot let a pup of the lead, if that was the case then, they would never get a free run.

because of that extending leash he had no control over that dog whatsoever.

it was lucky it was a 16wk pup, i know someone with a Lurcher, that had it attacked it, it would have ended up a dead Dog.

The next time it tries that, with an adult, it might not be so lucky.

I cant believe the answers, saying your dog was off the lead, its a popular dog walking spot, rough ground, a good place for training a pup, on rabbit smells.

so are you saying that a pup should always be on a lead, we beg to differ, he had no control over that dog,

everyone lets their dog run on there.

maybe if the pup had been full grown, it might not have been as keen to grab hold.

Whether the pup is off the lead or not if somebody knows they have a dog aggressive dog then they should muzzle the fukcing thing ... If it had attacked my pup I would have booted seven bells of shit out of the little fukcer ..........

Had the same happen to me when mines were pups, not as young as yours like......fecking Boxer grabbed a hold off it. If anything its made it a growler when other dogs(male) come to close to him.

Its a b*****d when a pup gets bit, ive had it go both ways had a ridgeback years ago got a bit of a hiding in similar circumstances she just learned not to run straight in to other dogs. Where as had a stafford that got bit really bad when he was 6 minths by 3 other staffies and it turned him into a f***ing loonatic. Get the pup around dogs you know are sound as soon as possible and the pup should be ok. I left it too long with my old stafford as he was laid up for ages and I was over cautious after. All the best
