How do I stop them using corners as a toilet?

this is why i don't like ferret courts, theres too many places for them to crap with no defined area for them to use, i have a two tier hutch in a shed, top half has sleeping box and feeding area and a hole in the floor with steps to the bottom half, this has woodshavings on the floor which they push up to one wall and use it to crap in, this half also has a pipe to allow them to access the play area which is outside the shed, this has a rubber mat on the floor and an openable tube to allow access to the garden for when i'm around to watch them. i find that by only putting woodshavings in one area, they make straight for it when needing to go......try putting a piece of ply or plastic (nothing with sides though they just crap when there arses hit the side when reversing in ) and putting woodshavings on just that and no where else, might work for you

Hats off to you!! That is an absolutely fantastic skyway!!! I haven't got much space so here's my tunnel system for my ferts - which they love!! It stands against the garage wall when not in use.

In my experience ferrets given a multi level cage / housing always go to the very lowest level to shit, if these kits are having to work there way down to the lowest level through a maze of ramps & pipes they will shit on the nearest place they can find for ease.

 

Nothing wrong with your set up, its superb but there just releaving themselves on the platforms as its easier,

looking fantastic i always said it would be a palace not a court. im i would keep moving the shit to where you want it and using the emsmine (spelling) to remove the sent from where you dont. in time they might cotton on. another thing you could try is only having one route from there sleeping area that leads straight to the litter try. this is what i have and they shit in the nearest corner to the end of the tube almost every time.

If only mine read the rules.

 

They get out of bed, down a ramp to the first shelf, then halfway up a ramp to the pipe entrance. They then go up the pipe to the next shelf, then through another section and then do a shit.

 

What I may do though is, as you suggest, have a pipe going from the nesting box straight to the litter tray and move the entrance to the Skyway further away.

 

Or, I have some 4mm marine ply which I may steam into shape to make curves so there are no corners on the shelves.

 

Tell you what though, if I was to start all over again I would build a circular Court. Then see what the lazy buggers do.

 

At least the poo is the only problem am having, apart from this they have been a delight to keep.

I have now revoked all access to the Skyway as I was getting sick of cleaning up. I just had to remove one ramp and that is all. I will put it back in when i go to play with them. That will a) give them something new to do when I am there, keeping everything fresh and exciting and keep it clean and poo free.

 

Boy this is all a learning experience!
