baw 4,360
if caught out of the sea, (if) they had hid the nets and just drove back with fish+ rods in truck, surley its not against the law to catch with rod+ line from the sea.??? or am i wrong, like if you travel with game (deer+ hare) in truck day+ night , as long as you got no guns+lamp or dogs in the truck, only game which you bought from a bloke at a pub car park lol you not breaking the law .? Can't catch migrating fish without a permit or license even at sea. Can't mind how far out the boundary goes, think its 2 mile or maybe 10 lol.

I was fishing an estuary the other week and the balliff showed up. Had the craic with him and said what if I catch a salmon, what will happen. He said as long as I could walk home with it nowt, if I used the car, I'd be handing him the keys. Funnily enough I fish this bit regular and never see him. 5 days after seeing him, I found a salmon net tied to a jetty, half brick other side. He must have known they were doing it and was watching. I've still got the net
kevin em 342
its a €150 fine the gear confiscated including vehicle in ireland. i think anyway I think the fine is a lot more than that a lad off here got caught a lot of year ago and got fined big money
johnny boy68 11,726
I got caught back in the early 90's, I had a few slaps off 2 bailiffs which I didn't mind but the wankers then phoned the police and I had a £360 fine when I went to court. The day I was in court this fella in his 60's had 6 months, though it was his third time being caught gaffing.

AirgunGuy 362
Bailiffs are not only out during normal working hours. They are out at all times and use night vision equipment amongst other things. I've a few mates that are ghillies and I know 1 or 2 bailiffs. If they see you or know you're there they'll either have you lifted by the cops or make a phone call and within a short period of time several bodies will appear and you can guarantee you're gettin done in...and rightly so!!!Loads of times I've been on the river and the ghillie has appeared and told me where I've been and what I've been doing. They watch from everywhere as do the bailiffs. I've known guys to banned from a beat for doing things they shouldn't be doing. For instance...a very well known salmon angler and angling writer got banned from a beat I fish on the Dee for killing 2 salmon he'd caught and stuck in the back of his car. The beat is c&r and a bailiff was watching him from the hillside above. Short time later he was told to come out of the water, get to fcuk and never come back. He also got banned from several other beats on the river.I was on the Dee a couple of weeks ago with a few mates fishing a beat. 1 of the guys was fishing a pool at around 11.30 as it was gettin dark. There was no one for miles and all of a sudden 2 cars appeared. 1 was the ghillie along with another ghillie and the other car was 2 bailiffs. Apparently the bailiffs spotted 3 guys in the gloaming with what looked like rods over their shoulders. Turned out it was the estates game keeper with 2 other guys with rifles out looking for a roe buck that was in the area. The bailiffs spotted them from a view point they use and had 4 guys there in minutes.I know for a fact there's a lot of poaching goes on and more people get away with it than get caught but don't under estimate the bailiffs...they know how the poachers operate and are well geared up for it. I know 1 former Tweed bailiff found a home made bomb in his garden shed. The bomb squad were called and it was live. That's how serious salmon poaching is to some people!!! There seems to be a constant war between bailiffs and poachers. Edited July 5, 2013 by AirgunGuy
