He's got a little 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy pup that he's bringing on and has always been into the terriers but this is his first Lurcher. We have been for a few mooches and he is a sound lad so offered to take him lamping for the first time, he's not been before. I've just got a new lamp and lithium and was desperate for some ferret food so decided to give it a bash last night. My only 2 lamping permissions are golf courses and my mate who's got loads of permission was busy getting drunk and shagging loads of women, lol. So the golf course it was. I just took my bitch Lady, she hasn't done much since breaking her foot back in February and isn't properly fit but she gave 110%. We got to the first golf course at 10:30 and it was barely dark. She had a couple of runs but within seconds it had ran out of the beam. No fun to watch and i wasn't doing a very good job of getting him hooked on lamping. We got to the second course at about midnight and by now the cloud was thick, wind was up and it was starting to rain. Perfect. Her first slip was horrendous. 2 rabbits sat out, I wanted her to go for the left which would of ran into the open and she went for the right which ran straight for cover. It was a poor run but Ed was speechless when he saw the straight line speed of these golf course bunnys. They fly! The second slip was a good run and it ran straight passed us with the dog right up its arse. Unfortunately it made cover and she was back on the slip. The third slip was a great run and I could see that Ed was buzzing. It was a sitter about 20 feet out, among some trees. She saw it squat and I slipped her. She did her usual on squatters and started stalking it, she edged right to persuade it out of the trees and as she did so it shot off, she was right behind it, ran it passed us and overtook it on the straight while striking to the side. She just nicked it and it turned her, she was still right behind it through the turn, it headed flat out back for the trees and dropped in a set. She made a mistake when striking and paid for it. The next slip was the one. Only half grown and sat off a thick hedge. It sat really tight and she is good at keeping them off hedges so I gave it her. As I slipped her it got up and ran towards her, then panicked and spun her 180. It ran the length of the hedge and then spun and headed back up for the other end. It was about to enter the hedge when I flicked the lamp a few times and it worked and the rabbit spun back into the open. She struck, rolled over and the rabbit went up in the air. They both landed on their feet and the chase was back on. This time it bolted across the flat and through some trees. I lost sight and flicked the lamp off. Just as I was about to say "that's a lucky rabbit" I heard that infamous squeal and she came running back with her catch... We called it a night and headed back. Tried my whippet on them last year when he was young and unless he could get close before they took off he struggled with them or they went out the beam too quick 1 Quote Link to post

My dogs keep me happy and that's all that matters. I will run this bitch anywhere against anyone but you will never here me say "she's amazing, she will beat anyone's dog" bla bla bla. The only draw back for me is their "breakability". Wether this is more rumour than fact I don't know.
