Recommended Posts

i walked into beechwood vets in newport s wales to weigh my terrier and to get my jill out of season, so i asked how much do you charge, they came back with 2 leaflets abouyt 5 pages thick lol they said its £35 for the jab to put her out of season, or £78 for an implant to keep her out of season for 6 months lol , iv got the leaflet here ill put it up tomoz for you lot to see, i asked why is it so much for the jab, they said the jills jab is acually £7 the rest of the money goes to the vets time and the running of the building and stock on the shelves, i said well i only want the jab, ill do it myself, oh no you cant do that, the vet has to do it, i thought yea i wonder why lol cheeky sonso's i walked out, but felt like saying i only want a jab for my jill, not to pay all your wages, the rent of your building ect, it would only took about 2 seconds to administer, makes me sick, i know they do a good job but feck me all that money for 1 little jab had my hair off all day, lol anyone from the newport area know of a cheaper vet for a jab for my jill to put her out of season or a hob thats been done, ill pay ovcorse ? let me know cheers guys  foxtails

Got us by the balls....

I phoned the vets that has links to the wessex ferret club, thinking, he`s ferret minded... The phone dolly asked if I was a member, I said no, she said £35 each. Went to a local one in the end, £48.50 for the two. But like you say, 6 or 7 quid for the jab, and 16 quid each for a f***ing consultation, I wouldnt mind but I weighed them myself before I went!

Then, the bellend of a vet stuck the needle straight through one`s scruff and squirted the gear all over the bench.. I thought, done this before aint ya..

vet up here charges £12 two of mine have been in season for a while now leaving them to go out of season themselfs just keep them clean

Cant moan at that really can you bud. I joined the ferret club any way, so next march, I`ll get them done for a 5er each.

Yeah, mine we`re in season until last week. I was gonna breed again this year, but then I had a few little bits of work, so decieded against it, and gifted my 3rd jill away to some one who wanted a few kits, so he could breed his own.

As you say about keeping them clean, I had one jill in particular Ive had to bathe every week, she was well up for spreading her scent..

You cant half notice a difference in their behaviour now they are brought out, lively and looking for work now..

Vets I went to in aberaman 5 minutes from Aberdare I had the 6 month Implant and it was 32 quid

What happens when the implant runs out? does it totally dissolve or are you left with a lump like the woman`s implant?

The vet said its like a grain of rice and releases the liquid inside at small amounts over 6 months but she also said all ferrets are different and last longer than 6 months and after the course the implant will adventually dissolve

Works out cheaper to get a hob snipped cost me £60 has taken my 3 Jill's out of season twice this year and he has been used on quite a few friends Jill's he has 3 Jill's coming next week end for his services ( lucky bugger).

I asked my vet why the jab was so dear was told once the vile was opened what was left had to be disposed of so if I got a few Jill's together for the jab she would only charge a few quid per shot to cover the price of a full vile and her time.. But who has enough Jill's to use a full vile so decided to get the hob done.

The bottle at my vets looked like a really big bottle for what she took out of it. It cost me £7.97 per jab, which I dont think is that expensive. The consultation was £16.28 each! All she done was weigh them FFS.

It had one of them tops you can keep sticking needles in and it won`t leak.. Im thinking its a broad spectrum drug for most mammals, based on weight. Delvosteron Ive been billed for?

Someone near me said they have some silver kits, so I might get a hob done for next year though.

Vac hob really is the way to go.

Don't see the point of the implant. . . . . . . .

I know must vets are expensive . . . . . . . and it does my head in at times, how much the consultations are when you already know what is needed. However, suggesting that there should be no consultation fees is just plain daft. If they charged you only for the price of the drug, then effectively they are just providing a free medical service. . . . . at the end of the day it's a buisness . . . . so clients money DOES need to pay for wages, building, stock etc etc etc. That's just the way the cookie crumbles.

If you get new tires fitted on your car. . . . . you pay more than if you source the tires yourself. . . . and fit them. . . . .

If you go out for a meal. . . . . it costs you more than if you bought the ingredients yourself and cooked it at home . . . . .

That's life folks

Well I rang the vets and she told me that they have never heard off disposing the vial once opened she told me it was resealable. But alot of people I know have been told this.. Mine charges 9 quid a peice plus consultation and they give 5ml of the drug for a ferret.
