1888andybhoy 7
Hi lads, Iv'e just got some fresh stalking. Not shot for over 10 years but the farmer has got into the willow growing business and wants rid of the deer completely. Iv'e got loads of molasses that i mix in my pheasant food on the syndicate I do the keepering for. Iv'e been told sheep nuts mixed with molasses and put in a clearing with a good back stop works. Never heard of this before have you ? Also heard of roe loving peanut butter ?? Got a few salt blocks down but was wanting to try some other stuff too. Any ideas welcome and any advice on the above methods as i can get loads of sheep nuts and as said i have gallons of molasses. Many thanks Andrew. Quote Link to post
sussex 5,777
I would think you have about all you need mate ,its not stalking though , its pest control /eradication , shame you cant keep him happy with a proper management plan that way he's got the deer at a proper acceptable level & you keep some good stalking.Every ones a winner ... Squirrel_Basher 17,100
If its not a fenced area you will never eradicate anyway so just shoot on sight and in season .I would say that you will never concentrate roe in an area whatever time of year as they are not herd animals and far too territorial. Spread your baiting points about mate and visit them as and when signs of use are evident and wait up in a high seat if possible. As long as the landowner sees a reduction he will be happy mate as its cheaper than fencing .Good luck and straight shooting 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,481
Same here farmer next door growing willow for a power plant and you can see up to 14 roe at a time in the headlands but once the willow up up they wont do much damage unless its a buck stripping some of them Quote Link to post

Another idea would be make a small manger and put some fresh cut silage in it and dilute some molasses and water it in to the silage, if the manger has a roof on the better to keep the weather from deteriorating the silage. peanut butter does work a treat but the mice like it also so if your using peanut butter pots place them so vermin cant get to them. Hope this helps Cheers Stu 1 Quote Link to post
