youcanthide...BANG 1,051
Nope never done it me not really sport in my eyes i know but due to limited time next season lamping will make up alot of my season and once the local rabbit population begins to dwindle i will have to turn to other quarry to get my harris out hunting, until the weekends when i will be able to travel further for hunting I do alot of roost shooting and you only have to turn your phone on and they are off. Couldnt you try magpies/pheasants ? maybe, i would definitely try magpies but not pheasant i would rather leave them for either daytime hawking, catapult or gun. Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
Dont suppose anybodies ever tried there hand at lamping pigeons from there roost with a hawk before, would just like to hear any stories or tips The general licence is quite clear it is illegal to lamp birds other than ferals Quote Link to post
youcanthide...BANG 1,051
ive looked into that and on the defra website it states (v) any device for illuminating a target or any sighting device for night shooting im not shooting them so i dont think its illegal, correct me if im wrong though. if it is indeed illegal then it wont be happening, its just ive been reading this article http://woodlandsfalconry.com/tommy-s-articles/lamping/ and also heard of another bloke in the village doing it so im just exploring my options for the limited time i will have next season. charlie caller 3,654
Stick to rabbits dude, then no grey areas, lot more fun anyway and builds tremendous fitness, and don't forget the odd hare always gets caught, not that I would advocate lamping hares, its far too easy, but sometimes it cant be helped, sure the bird don't mind Quote Link to post

air gun ant 1,666
I thought the general licence was with regards to shooting? Do falconers have to comply with the GL? Atb ant Quote Link to post
youcanthide...BANG 1,051
i still thought the second rule of lamping birds was still in relation to shooting, but yes falconers do however you can get licences to hunt non licenced birds such as blackbirds for a sparrowhawk Quote Link to post
danw 1,748
The general licence allows the taking of what would otherwise be protected species it is not method specific and regardless of whether you use a gun, trap or bop you are bound by its conditions and it very clearly excludes the use of artificial lighting for the taking of anything other than feral pigeon http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/ourwork/regulation/wildlife/licences/generallicences.aspx#2013 Quote Link to post
