I had bars for years ,then moved and built new kennels and thought why not have mesh ,after putting mesh at bottom of bars to stop pups going in and out, what possible advantage has bars got over mesh ? none I can see.

Your right Paulus, there's no way anyone on here would kennel anything with the jaw power of one of a mans hands is there? Or terriers with small heads.

bars can be purchased in 3 or 4 inch (adult and puppy) and dogs don't usually bite sideways, in fact i have never had one bite bars . when i have a litter of pups i just tie wrap a length of chain link to the outside bottom half of the bars untill the pups are big enough for it to be removed. My only worry with pups and mesh is trapped legs, i have had this happen with a terrier pup who broke here front leg after getting it trapped in the mesh

I know of dented bars by a lurcher on a door panel and not by an overly powerful lurcher and that was good quality bars. I know a lad who makes kennel panels and will not even consider making bar panels because of all the problems with them, I have a couple of them I just don't use em

I've been 'planning' (in my head) a block built kennel and run all on a cement base, plumbed into the drains for easy wash down, and was considering having an 18"-2' wall around the run, with bars on top.

Does anyone with more experience with dogs than myself see any issues with this?

Option for the kennel is to build the 'wall' around the complete base, but build a wooden kennel on top, in effect keeping the wood up off the floor.

Was unsure of how to 'finish' the inside of a 'completely' block built kennel, ie, line it with Plywood, insulation etc. as it would end up on the floor. With my sub-wall idea, I thought I could line it from there up. If that makes any sense.

Any thoughts on this, or indeed photos of what you have would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

PS - Sorry for straying of the point, but thought it kinda tied in.
