Trail the concrete up to a smooth finish, using a bull float if you can get 1, the surface will be far less porous than a non trailed up surface.   You can use a sealer, if its trailed up it shouldn

Keep my dogs on fine dry saw dust that don't crack the pads, I wouldn't think concrete would cause it, the white is the water used in the concrete when it dries can't see that being the problem myself?

I though it could be the limestone powder coming threw affecting the pads
think your on the money there mate, i had simular problem with sores on the back end of my dogs ball bag from sitting looking out the pen gate all day. After alot of time and trying different meds/creams i figured the mix in the concrete wasnt right, too much lime. I used a standard garage floor/ driveway clear sealant , started to improve immediately, and problem gone completely in about a week.. doesnt have to be anything too pricey, once youve put a barrier between lime and dog, jobs oxo , hope that helps you out mate .. Just to add, i double coated the floor with it, dries fast but maybe keep dog out of pen for full day just incase

Instead of concrete

Use granit dust and sand and cement

Trowels up lovely less poress

And use free flow water proffer in your mix

I am a Roughcaster and have done loads of runs

The granit is also a lot harder wearing

You can also paint with a good non toxic floor paint

Like in motor garages

I think it's your mind that is cracked you mental b*****d, just because I like to look after my dogs properly and am not to big headed to ask for advice there is no need to start crying about it, a dog is only as good as its feet and its both back pads have got large deep cracks in that are becoming sore, I will take your advice and rub a bit of germoline on them instead of getting to the root of the problem

no bud it just seems to soak into the concrete yet still does the trick. im very confident that will solve your problem , might cost about 30 quid

Just had a route in the shed, the name of seal i used was thomsons one coat concrete seal. And come to think of it the dogs feet suffered aswell, he used to go very red and raw looking between the toes. regardless of people thinking it sounds far fetched, it was proof for me that the lime was the problem. So as it turned out i was able to save my germaline for using on my own balls
