hutchey 147
Hi, Has anyone got experience for the ns200 or similar for night vision? I'm looking for something like that or maybe just get a good scope and lamp. mainly for fox and rabbiting, however i need to bear in mind other shooting like Deer (i know i cant shoot at night for deer) but is having the scope on for all round use acceptable? Ideally i don't want to be spending over £600 for night vision and then another ???? for a good scope for dawn/dusk shooting Cheers Quote Link to post

sussex 5,777
My advise would be spend every penny you can muster on a quality scope ...all the add on's can come later. Quote Link to post
Guest scramble
My advise would be spend every penny you can muster on a quality scope ...all the add on's can come later. some of the high end scopes are not up to much with Nv add-ons due to some of the lens coatings. Hutchey have a look on some of the NV forums, you can build a good Digi NV unit for less than £300 including illumination which will give you 250-300 yards with ease. 1 Quote Link to post

hutchey 147
thanks for all the replies i was on youtube looking at the videos of the night vision and thermal imaging and that's where this all started from. i guess i need to try a night vision and see what its like for my eyes its either that or carrying some 22ah lithium batteries around Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
ive ordered some of those coloured gel sheets that the disco lights have as apparently if you get a red and a blue it makes the light turn into IR almost. Will wait and see as the sheets only cost me £2 there are places that sell the clip on IR filters but at £30 + i thought i'd try this method first Will let you know how it goes. Quote Link to post

I've actually spoke to Archer & Zeiss on the subject of lens coatings. Both gave me more or less the same reply that they've no evidence to support this claim. Archer went further & suggested it was an online urban myth to suggest high end optics with coatings under performed cheaper scopes. They reckoned its a myth perpetuated by those with a vested Interest. Me? I can't comment either way as I've no evidence. Quote Link to post

rimmer 33
I just brought an N750, it was that or an archer, i dont like the archer because it pushes you down the stock, i have used one a few times but find they give you an un=natural position on the gun. so the N750 was my choice. Deker 3,478
i can not get on with nightvision , i have tried loads from cheap Russian to gen3 military stuff (Kite) i have always done better with a lamp and good scope, P,S i have been to specsavers and it made no difference I have a reasonable bit of Lamping kit and Nightvision, I don't actually see one taking the place of the other, BOTH systems have their uses...regardless of the state of your eyes!! 1 Quote Link to post
hutchey 147
well i got the gel sheets through and did what youtube said and it didnt really work. I used my cluson SL2 50w lamp on full power but the result was terrible. so next question is whether having an IR illuminating torch / laser and a flip up filter on my scope might work better? main things here are keeping cost down and not having to have to change from something like a pulsar n550 to a daytime scope every time i want to go out late pm/night Quote Link to post
