Chris Parsons 2
I Think there is two types of dog's for foxes. pre ban I used to have a dog that was only 21" and was by no means a a usual Fox dog. she wouldn't even go near one infill about two years old but she then became over the next few years a excellent catch dog, but once caught after 30 seconds would come off and let the other bigger dog finish. Not interested at all, would never rag a dead Fox either, anybody ever own a dog like that? I really found her quite usefully..... all pre ban Quote Link to post
Mixed Bag 603
what happened if the other dog wasn't there though would it just let the fox go again? 1 Quote Link to post

jeemes 4,485
what happened if the other dog wasn't there though would it just let the fox go again? She only had a few by herself.... would stay on it a bit longer but I would dispatch it myself If you had time to help her she must of held on long enough. Foxes are not that easy to kill.....but wait a minute and you will get the little lurcher brigade on saying its all about "the knack". Quote Link to post
Whiskey 28
Seems pointless a dog that can catch one but not smash it and a dog that can't catch it that dose breed the two together ? lamp it luke 29
depends on what you want out of the dog if you hunt as a allrounder ferreting, lamping, day time deer and it will pull a fox but isnt to keen to hang on to it, no big loss i could handle that.. but if its sole job was foxing and couldnt do the job solo then no it would have to go! ALL PRE BAN TALK I DONT WANT ANOTHER 3 DAY HOLIDAY Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
I get what the lad is saying to some extent. If lamping. . . . obviously a bit of a dumb idea! However, if you were out bushing and flushing in the day, and had a small, quick, nippy dog that often made the catch, had the knack of being in the right place at the right time etc, and could help put foxes in the bag that might have been missed. But could or would not dispatch on it's own. . . . . . would you leave it at home, or let it come out with the pack? Quote Link to post
old school 552
when I started I had a collie/grey x whippet/grey that would catch them easily, she could even catch them on the nose and then she would let them go and continuously bowl them over time and time again... she never killed one tho, I had to grow a set and do it myself... I got rid of her to f**k!!! Quote Link to post
Chris Parsons 2
I'm not saying I got got two dogs for different purposes I got her for lamping rabbits and she ended up getting a half decent catch dog for me and asked if anybody had the same....... that's all lads Quote Link to post
