There was one on the other side of the mill bridge there that used to kill any other swans apart from his mate that accidentally landed on what he decided was 'his' pond, he was nicknamed Hannibal locally! He used to drown them by holding their heads underwater..

His side of the pond:

thats mental malt lol

That castle and pond is a few hundred yards down the road from my nan and grandad's house mate. My grandad used to take me down there all the time as a kid to feed the swans and ducks, and then he used to take my eldest down there when she was small. Every now and again in summer you used to get a load of flies come off the water at once. One of my first memories is being in my pushchair and screaming as we were enveloped by a cloud of the f***ing things one afternoon! My mum reckons they were that thick it was like being in a black fog and you could only see so far ahead.

It's good in a way, but they won't even let us have a mobile phone mast here yet if a company or person has enough money, the same rules don't seem to apply then.. The national park planning authority are an unelected group of people who make decisions that have an effect on peoples day to day lives.. It don't sit right with me.. Their rules and decisions are partly responsible for the lack of growth and some of the lowest wages in the UK, but on the other hand they ensure that the place remains a nice place.. I don't know whether I'd prefer them gone or not.. :hmm:
