Guest joe ox
Doxhope the dog which I refered to was bull x greyhound with about 1/8 or less deerhound in, she was a decent all round lamping dog had some real good times with her not the fastest of dogs but determined and 100% honest. Sadly she was ran down. Quote Link to post

whin 463
early eighties two of the lurchers we had were deerhound crosses back to collie crosses one of the bitches was a good hare catcher and a nice looker to boot , they were not any good for ferreting but as lamping daylight hare dogs roe etc as good as most , sadly the black country sting came along with there lies and a lot of these families of lurchers went with the dodo, when i think back to the shite plummer etc wrote about these wonderfull dogs they were breeding makes me boil all the best, plenty deerhoundy dogs in the usa got some nice pics of them good dogs cheers Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
It's good to see Deerhound crosses coming back into vogue a little. About 15 years agoe had a deerhound/grey to collie/grey that did alright on the south downs hares, he didn't have the agility of the saluki cross he often ran with, 2" taller and strongly built in comparison to the saluki hybred, but was often in the right place at the right time when it came to the strike. Have a bull/greyhound to deerhound/greyhound of about 11 months at the present and have high hopes for him. Quote Link to post
Guest oldskool
this is big jock... he was just an average joe... crap on rabbits but he'd of done fox well enough and used to be a great dog on hares.. deerhound/greyhound x collie/greyhound... i crossed him to an ex track dog and got molly she would have blew hot and cold but when she was hot she was pretty useful... big jock had an infuriating lazy style of running, i prefer a bit more of a burst so i decided to cross back to grey... all in all, i dont know if i'd go back to the deerhound cross... perhaps if the proper blood came along i would reconsider Quote Link to post
Guest tina/kev/sky/ace/tug
i love the deerhound cross and will be getting a first cross soon. I have a 3/4 cross at the mo ( even though some say there is whippet in him i got him as a 3/4 cross) He does me proud every time i take him out on his own or with guests. I cant fault the cross or speek highly enough. He even once jacked on charlie then just started takeing them again as he got older. Quote Link to post

inan 841
always fancied 1 and would like some feedback on them? what was your preferable x i.e. 1/2 or 3/4 and how did you find them for stamina brains and on all sorts of quarry? cheers wyllie I got my 1st lurcher in1968,at that time every other dog was advertised as a Stag hound x,usually inthe Exchange and Mart, the 1st time I went to the Lambourn show the over class was dominated by deerhound x,s,I think Phil Lloyds wife won it with a dog called Lucy,,Ive only had one deer hound x myself ,he was a 3/4 grey x Deerhound , a dog ,I only keep dogs,he was fast and reasonably biddable I never ran him on the fens ,buit he took a lot of hares on quite "big land else where",Ive seen quite a few deerhound x,s run over the years ,they are invariably fast ,and can turn reasonably well .depending what your quarry is ,on hares,in my experience after a couple of runs they fade,if they havent caught it inside 2 mins ,they arent going to,,most will take fox ,and they have the reach of neck, not to receive too much damage, especially the dogs,if I was going for one now ,I would break my rule and plump for a bitch,to keep the size down.I have no experience of them on deer ,so can,t comment. If you like the cross ,go for one, they are certainly handsome to look at.Inan. Quote Link to post
