Worth A Chance?

Recommended Posts

a young lad near to me bought a lurcher off hear a year or so ago now, this dog I have seen run and it can do its job but it has no recall at all! the kids only 15 and he really should have know to see the dog run but been young he took the lads words for it. this dog is about 4 year old and I don't really know how a running dog can get to that age with no recall, now what im asking is can this problem be fixed or has this kid not got a chance to be fair. it seems like the dog does not know his name what make me think something could be a bit fishy about it :hmm:

any help at all would be fantastic

Its breeding may have a bearing on its attitude to command?.

Poor initial training then,it may improve with an experienced tutorship but its possibly to set in its earlier lack of education.

Need to check if the dog is deaf first. Then put some treats in your pocket and every time you say it;s name feed it.Do this every time and don;t let it off the lead.Transfer to garden and build up slowly

Personally I think if you do this method every time the dog retrieves to you it will drop its catch eagerly waiting a treat therefore causing a new problem that is very hard to overcome , I would tell the lad as said before keep the dog with him as much as possible and when he lamps if the dog misses turn the lamp out straight away and run directly away from the dog and hide , have a quick look with the lamp every 30 seconds or so with the lamp to keep a bearing on the dog but stay hidden , most dogs do not like the feeling of being left behind and it will soon come looking for him. Do the same process when out walking day time , as soon as the dog runs away from him he should run away from it and hide again until the dog finds him , it wont take long
