skycat 6,173
When I've sat here most of the day, on and off, desperate for a fridge freezer as our dog fridge blew up last night, bidding cannily on Evilbay, thought I had the most local one in the bag and 3 seconds, yes, 3 seconds to the end, some b*stard comes and snipes me ... just as I was trying to add a final bid to make sure. I thought I had it but couldn't get my fingers moving fast enough to get the bid in. Oh well, start all over again, but there's never much stuff round Huntingdon and I'm b*ggered if I'm travelling miles to buy one. Having said all that, I've had some fantastic bargains on there too: a complete and very nice bathroom suite for £1, not to mention bookcases: ditto, sofas: also ditto. Can't really complain I suppose

skycat 6,173
I use this all the time...Just to be on the safe side www.gixen.com Never fails me! That's kinda scary really: I'd be tempted to use it on stuff I didn't really need, then find myself buying all sorts of crap Anyway, I sort of like the challenge sometimes, and it isn't as though there aren't 100s more of most of the things I generally want. I guess the sniper would be good for things you really need, but what happens if someone else snipes at exactly the same time as you?
Tiercel 6,986
With a snipe bid you put in your max and it will bid in the last second for you. Always bid your max and as late as you can. then if your out bid, someone wanted it more than you did, nothing you can do about that. TC

squab 2,875
as tiercel says, you wasnt beat by faster fingers with only 3 secs to go you was already outbid, bid your max your prepared to go and stick to it
Frann 882
Yep stick a max bid on. If im outbid on my maximum offer the other buyer is welcome to it because it went over what I was willing to pay. What makes me mad on evilbay is folks putting stuff on for auction then withdrawing it when they don't get what they wanted. FFS put it on Buy It Now I put a few Dreamcasts (videogame console) up a few months ago and let them go for under a fiver, I expected more but good on the buyer, they had a bargain from me. My fault, I should have put them on a Buy It Now. But I would never be a c**t and withdraw the auction at the last minute because it wasn't going as I wanted.
