Alsone 789
Urban foxes. That explains a lot when it comes down to condition. Obviously a few bins getting raided! Quote Link to post
dadioles 68
I do not shoot foxes but things are changing and it is now getting personal. My chickens were attacked a few weeks ago but it was a young fox and it got tangled with one of the chickens in the electric fence and the chicken survived as the "shocked" fox ran off when I appeared in an interestingly semi naked state at 4am in response to the screaming chickens. The surviving chicken is now hailed as Dora the guard chicken. Over the past two days a fox has taken my neighbours pet guinea pigs and the last of their chickens. I did sit out with my .22 rimfire for a couple of very early mornings but that was not going to work. The foxes are almost certainly coming from a small local "wildlife park" where, uniquely, I have shooting permission primarily for rabbits. Given the sensitive nature of this area, not urban but a big village, I am tempted to set myself up to try and take revenge, discretely, on the fox population. .22lr with and without night vision (my hmr too noisy for this - discrete). While rabbit shooting in the wildlife park (night and very early morning) I have not seen any foxes but do believe they are there. I like technology and am very tempted to buy a remotely operated fox caller even though they can cost a few hundred quid (I did say revenge). My "fantasy" is to setup the fox caller about 50 yards into the main open area, hide as stealthily as I can off to one side, and attract whatever foxes are in the area to my caller. Is this a realistic scenario? Will the electronic fox caller do a reasonable job? (fieldsports channel last week was interesting in this respect). I like the idea of a remote call that I can lie in wait and shoot towards rather than one that attracts a fox towards me. Advice please. Quote Link to post
silverfoxsid08 27
I fed tined dog food for one month then set high seat up to a tree and shot them all seven in free hours a good night i say Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
Make sure you have subs and a moderator and the locals will never know you're there with .22. Just watch your backstop if in a built up area as .22 can ricochet. If it has raided your chickens though, my money is on it coming back so you might stand more chance of getting it by waiting around your own coup. Did you note the times of the attacks as often foxes are creatures of habit? Also, have you thought about baiting? If you do go for the wildlife park, make sure you check your written permission was written in such a way as to cover fox shooting otherwise you could end up in serious trouble if some objector complains and fox shooting doesn't fall within the scope of the permission. Yes, thanks for the advice. It was good to see Roy Lupton using a .22lr against fox on this weeks Fieldsports Channel. I have had a camera setup for a couple of weeks in the hope that it will spot the fox and give me a regular pattern but that has not worked too well so far. A couple of images of the fox but it is not working to a timetable! Foxpro Wildfire arrives tomorrow, worth a go. I quite like my gadgets. I should Know over the next week or so if I have spent the money wisely. Baiting with catfood seems a good idea too. Quote Link to post
