Jesslurcher 25
Since the pups young it shouldn't really be a problem until the pup hits maturity and tries to be boss. When I had two dogs the terrier who was younger bullied my boxer from he was about 1 year old, the terrier was never done picking fights, the other male never fought back but the terrier still continued to bully the heck out of him. Sometimes I wish the boxer had of turned round and put him in his place! It depends on the two dogs personalities, some will live together the very best and some won't, doesn't matter if they are both dominant characters or not, the dominant one will always be at the other. I now have the same terrier and a lurcher bitch, they get on like two peas in a pod lol. I've never really known of a bitch and dog to not be able to live together. It is a hassle keeping them apart when she comes into heat though. Surely that's when fights kick off? Is in not better to have a more dominant dog and no competition for top dog? There was no competition, the terrier thought he ruled the place and didn't want the boxer near anything that he classed as his. Sometimes if I took the boxer out and left the terrier in the terrier would growl and snap at him when I brought him back in as if he was guarding his territory. In the end they had to be split up, the boxer died due to health problems(not anything to do with the terrier) and as long as the terriers here I won't have another male dog. He's just a wee f*cker, he can't be trusted around other males. Anyway I think that's an extreme case of a dominant dog bullying, I don't mean to put you off getting another male because I know male dogs that live together 110% but it is easier to keep a male and a female together imo. Most bitches come into heat every six months but it can differ between the individual dog, it lasts roughly 3 weeks. You'll know when she's coming in because you'll notice the dog sniffing around her, you'll notice swelling too and then she'll begin to bleed. 1 Quote Link to post
DeerhoundLurcherMan 997
So a general view is most dogs are OK with other dogs once the pecking order is established. But a bitch is the safe bet.......? Cheers. Quote Link to post
Hywel 53
Could be worse and your older dog be a Bitch, two bitches together are worse then two dogs. Totally agree I've got two bitches here and it has lead to vet bills Quote Link to post

Cheers. As others have said really and it depends on individual personalities. However, if I were in your position I would go with a bitch (personal preference). 1 Quote Link to post
