there is some land near me where i have the odd walk now and then, part of an estate manged by the national trust and grazed by sheep and cattle from local farms. never in almost 20 years have i seen a hare there, and only the occasional rabbit, but i found this sign up today which i found a bit annoying.

for a start, i had a word with one of the graziers who i know, and he said there had been a couple of local boys loooking for rabbits with the lamp one evening and a passer-by had called the police, certainly no hare coursing going on.

secondly the idea of putting wires in the grass is a new one on me, is this supposed to injure the dogs, in which case is it perhaps cruelty itself? no different to illegal trapping is it?

and thirdly, what other crimes can you think of where signs are put up "just in case"? do you get signs in the street saying "danger of muggers", or stuff like that?

just seems like we are constantly being dragged into the public domain, almost trying to get the general public to report any kind of running dog activity, legal or not. tar em all with the same brush!

I think it is the civic duty of all dog men to dial 999 on their mobiles when they are in this area, just in case a crime is in danger of being committed.Lets get more Plod out investigating these heinous acts.

The sign doesnt actually say the wires are there to hurt the dogs though so you'd be f****d trying to claim about them. Id imagine there wasnt any wires and its just a deterent. Its a sad state of affairs when a farmer has to do this to protect his stock or some dick driving all over his newly sown crops. Once again its probably the idiots in that area f***ing it up for you lads that do it properly....

You must be a little sick in the head to intentionally go out to injure a dog though........ :nono:

collect the sign and the wires and give them to a scrap lad to deliberately cause injury or suffering to a dog must be illegal and putting a poxy sign up just doesnt alter it be some tree hugging wanker who has put it up

The NT would be happy with the wires they are virulently anti-hunting

That signs not just been put up yesterday or this week even, looks like an old sign to me. I'd get it down sharpish if I was you. It's just educating the public to pick up the phone if they see a greyhound type dog in a field hares or not. It's not like the public know what a hare looks like or care.

Just want to make this clear.

I would NEVER agree or justify anyone putting anything out to deliberately try to injure a dog.

What I didn't see a problem with was the sign itself.

If he's having problems with people going onto his land illegally then that sign should act as a good deterrent. After all who would run there dog where there was a high chance it could be hurt!

You can walk the field to check first without a dog. The signs not a good thing, he could have put up dogs will be shot if that was the case.

Surely thats cruelty to animals?? In a far worse manner than coursing would have been anyway. They do realize that field will not be exclusive to these bloody non-existent hares and peoples dogs? There will be other wildlife with the potential to be injured! Sometimes I swear the police are on the side of criminals. I have my flat almost broken into, drunk men outside the flat banging on the door, scared out my tree, while I on my own, police take over 2.5 hours to arrive. Take a dog for a walk, bloody 6 vans two helicopters, riot and swat teams there in under 3 minutes! f**k sake get your priorities right!!

Is there not any real crime out there to deal with!?
