Guest mush
i would say horse's for course's , i have tried a saluki x once and found the dog to be to big for the ground i work on , he was quite big ...29 inch tts .......where as on the same ground a 24 inch tts bull x will catch a lot more ......... having said that i will be the first to addmitt that the 24 inch bull x would not be a match for the saluki x ............so there we have it get a dog that suites the ground that you cover edited to add the saluki x was acctually collie/grey x saluki/grey who says it was the saluki that made it no good, maybe it was the collie I'm not surprised at 29 inchs try a 24- 25 inch saluki x and see if you can say the same . baz 463
a saluki x can kill hares daytime in numbers and on the lamp, a collie x or minshaw x can kill them on the lamp but struggle during the day,,what is the missing ingredient???? are they to slow? surely it cant be lack of stamina because they can run hares for 10 minutes on the lamp...so why cant minshaw/collie x kill hares during the day? if saluki x is a big plodder and needs a county to kill a hare why arnt all the other breeds down the fen wiping the hares out, because they all sound like there faster than the thick saluki.. TOMO 26,036
its quite simple nite dog i wanted the best lamping dog to go over my bitch as she is pretty usful on the lamp Well thats the first sensible thing you have said on this thread! you know joe , i have just re red evrything on this thread. and all i have done is dissagreed with one thing you have said that post i dissareed with is on page 4 post 48 . its the one where you imply that a hare on the fen must be easy to catch as the land is so large. i have no axe to grind as regards colie crosses or minshaw dogs in fact quite the reverse. and have on a number of ocasions had arguments with people who pulled ASD down about taking large bags of hares on the lamp. one joker who thought taking double figure hares was easy. just because i dissagree with somthing you say, doesnt mean im having a dig. and thers no need to get personal Quote Link to post

baz 463
i used to keep minshaw x i got into coursing and tried him, he used to run out of steam, it was ok in small fields, but hit the fens and it could hardly kill a hare....i was coursing one day with vic down the fens and he had no dog to run so he brought his nephews full minshaw dog...it ran 1 hare for about 3 minutes.....it died the next day .....
