gnipper 6,643
There is a brand at the game fairs a lot of friends use for waterproofs its called duck dri I've not tried them my self http://www.duckdri.co.uk/new.html I tend too use a brand called seal flex I get them from work for nowt there bib and brace and change them every year so does not bother me so much if I rip them and for a Welle I find land masters a good Welle strong good stiff anckle and can last 2 years at work with no holes We get the steel toe land masters at work and I wear them practically year round and get a couple of seasons out of them. If I were up in the hills all the time I might consider a pair of them fancy expensive boots but feck spending that much on something other than the kids when you don't have to. baw 4,360
I have the le chameau chasseur and the hunter balmoral sovereign mate both about £300 a pair and I wear my lowa hunter extreme Gtx everyday I like my wellies for some days and the le chams are used but the hunters are nearly brand new, I'd go for good hi top boots over wellies anydaySpot on post, deer tex is pretty good kit just make sure you go for the lighter weight version of whatever has it as deer hunter stuff can be a bit warm When it comes to kit, always buy the best your budget will allow Away man, what for, to get covered in shit and mud, ripped with barbed wire? I've had expensive wellies ruined by the sole being punctured off barbed wire. Forget the price, go for comfort and wearability.Iv had a load of le chameau wellies, and climbed a fence or 2 and never have I had a sole punctured even when wearing down, I did go for comfort and wearability and IN MY OPINION le chams are the best wellies there is, the hunters were a gift Have to agree with you mate, I've had them too and they are fine wellies. But a decent pair of socks and most wellies will do.

Be out on the hill at 2 in the morning with a fair walk in ffront of you and a blizzard come in, then you will realise the value of good quality kit All these " my rigger boots, trackies and DPM jacket" merchants will be crying like babies lamping fom the back of a landy on a January night....... Good kit will let you hunt on when others have had to retire.........it's a no brainer IMHO

Your hills must be no more than mounds mate cos anytime I'm out lamping NO MATTER the weather the biggest problem isn't the cold, its f***ing sweating you walk several miles up and down hills carrying lamp, battery, catch and your f***ing glad of a blizzard lol. The most important thing is comfort. Thermal vest, T shirt and any non noisy waterproof top/jacket will do. I've seen us out in fleeces that's been washed in that wash on waterproof stuff in all weathers, not a problem. Decent comfy waterproof boot, good socks, regatta etc, jogging bottoms for comfort with cotton waterproof over trousers and pair of gaitors, job done, dry and roasting toasting. Now if you said ferreting in sleet or on a thaw, now that's f***ing cold. I've seen me having to wear gloves southern softies
