forest of dean redneck 11,752
I know the idea would cause "massive unpopularity" among animal lovers but "I don't care". When I see the colossal and needless damage done to the wild birds and other small creatures, due to some submissive insisting that their 'pet' cats must be allowed to roam, completely uncontrolled and unlegislated on, it makes me so mad I want to go out with my rifle and blaze away. Come to think of it? That's exactly what I do. And mine's no piddly air rifle. Blowing roaming ~ there for presumed Feral ~ cats out of their f**king skins? " It's just in my nature. I must be allowed to follow my nature. " Could have tied 3 to angels collar, other week.

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Why would anyone in there right mind want to kill Urban cats ? Does that assume I'm urban ....? Urban cats. Urban rats. Urban magpies. Urban crows. Urban herring gulls. Personally, I make no distinction. If someone insists on allowing their 'pet' to behave like a wild animal? Fine. Wild animal it is then. And, the moment a wild animal starts becoming a pest, it gets treated as such. If I were to kick my dogs out the door and leave them to roam at will, doing as they likey, they wouldn't last an hour here. I accept that. Anyone else has a problem with it? Their problem, isn't it?
WILF 47,861
Can't get with that at all matey, that cat may be some youngsters pet or old ladies companion and I would feel like a right royal arsehole if I did harm to one.......there's enough stuff to kill without doing that Out in the middle of nowhere, fine, urban is verboten as far as I am concerned
Outlaw Pete 2,224
There's enough stuff to kill without doing that I've no problem with your views, Wilf. I would just point out though that I don't kill stuff 'just because'. I've never been one of these types to roam an urban estate at night, setting my 'Pit Bull' onto cats around the bin sheds. As for who evers pet one entering my property may be? To my mind, a " pet " is something we care for. Practically and, perhaps, emotionally. And the first point about caring for any creature we have as a pet is keeping it safe. Chucking it out the door to take its chances in the world isn't something I equate with proper treatment of a pet. It loses that label the moment it crosses my perimeter. Don't let it. If it's your pet? Take proper care of it. Just to give a bit more insight to how my reasoning works? Last night, I gave one of the guys a hard time about allowing his dogs to run about snaffling up shit loads of birds eggs. I like birds. Then, someone else said how his mate found a sparrowhawk inside his pigeon loft, raising hell. He whacked it with a shovel. No objection from me. He couldn't have proofed it out without his pigeons being proofed too. Time he'd applied for a license? He'd have had no pigeons. See? I'm neither a bird hugger, nor a thrill killer. Perhaps I just appear to see things a bit in black and white for some peoples tastes? Dunno.
Wildling 520
Those urbanised cats are as much a royal pain in the arse as the foxes, ripping the hell out of rubbish bags and the like.

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Who does? Never mind. Look; I've been doing a bit of donkey work this afters and that's always a good time to think. Now, let's get this thread back on the straight and narrow ..... Boris J lives in London, one may assume? And he has a cat. Okay. I'll bet he considers that cat his dear pet. Then, he lets this so dear, pet animal out the back door. And a truly wild, native species of animal has a go at it. Boris sees this and takes time to consider: " I have here a pet. Might have been a bunnie, Guinepig. Canary. Dog. What ever. It happens to be a cat. And I slung my pet out where the wild things live. And it met a wild thing ..... Hmm .......... " Sorry. I don't think a man with that level of 'reasoning' should be allowed any where near public office. What happens when his cat gets hit by a car. Driven by a white, middle aged, Capricorn male? See what I'm saying?
Astral 253
You know to some extent I actually agree with peoples dislike of cats, I love the British countryside and wildlife and I have actually researched a little bit about the damage to native bird and other wild-life and it is significant. My parents, who are getting on now have an old cat they let roam (Though now she stays mainly in the garden as shes ancient) that luckily seems to be good mates with our neighbour farmer whose fields join my parents garden. She was a great mouser, clearing out a load of pests for him, but if he had not been happy about her on his land would it be fair to remove her? I think yes. (Though I'd hope it would be through other means than killing at first, would break mums heart bless her) I look at it this way, when I have a kitty in the future I'll have a penned garden section, and an indoor cat, they are popular in Canada/America where large predatory animals often prey on house cats. Its a good idea for two reasons. It protects native animals cats prey on, and it stops people becoming annoyed. Cat owners should be more responsible and I HATE with a passion people who do not get their pets spayed if they don't intend to breed them intelligently. I would appeal to people however pissed they are, to at least try other means of removing other than killing at first. I've worked with some very lonely elderly people who I honestly think would just give up on life if they lost their companions. You never know who's cat it could be. If the problem cannot be resolved that way after trying or the cats feral. Then what's done is done I cant change peoples minds on that. Something I certainly agree on is this problem needs to be addressed at some point, cat numbers are only increasing due to irresponsible breeders and population growth = more cat owners. Who does? Never mind. Look; I've been doing a bit of donkey work this afters and that's always a good time to think. Now, let's get this thread back on the straight and narrow .....
