lamping lad 96
Alright lads, There will be a someone on here who can help. Im thinking about having a litter of pups out of my springer bitch next year and want to get all the preparations sorted this year. When it comes to tail docking I know it has to be within in five days of the birth, and that you have to supply a shotgun certificate, and prove the dam is working. my bitch is mainly used for beating and the odd rough shoot. I do not shoot, nor do i hold a certificate, so you can probably see my problem. my brother in law does hold a license, so would he be able to be the one that supplies the license or as the dog is in my name would this be out of the question? Thank you very much Quote Link to post
nobjerk 161
a letter from your keeper should do , i have mine do one explaining that the dog/dogs work on his estate . their may be a downloadable template somewhere on net , but its just a brief note with the shoot details on it and a signature . i think its just to put in the vets file to cover his/her arse if there happens to be any inquiry via the law, atb 1 Quote Link to post

Old geezer 5
Where I live it depends on the vet.My son had a litter of Springer spaniels and went to at least half a dozen different vets until he found one who would dock the pups. Quote Link to post
glenng 15
when i had my litter of pups docked last year i had to have the dam micro chipped and registered at my home address. i also had to supply the forementioned letter of shooting permission and a copy of my shotgun cert.i took me quite a while to find a vet who would do the docking as most thought it was not a requirement but would be more than happy for me to pay to have a damaged tail amputated. lamping lad 96
Thanks very much. I personally believe vets need to get to grips and say that tail docking is a nessesary. I have found a vet that will do it now. If they won't allow me to register the bitch under my brother in laws name as he holds a certificate. I'll apply for mine and wait till next time as there isn't any rush! ATB lads Quote Link to post
astle9 0
mine was done 6 days after birth and looking at the certificate you kind of wonder how easy they are too fake. Quote Link to post
glenng 15
mine was done 6 days after birth and looking at the certificate you kind of wonder how easy they are too fake. the cert would be easy to fake but i was given 2 bar code stickers for each cert that had the microchip id number on them.these had to go onto the cert to prove it was genuine.these were scanned as well as the microchip in the pup when it had its first jabs. astle9 0
mine were not chipped at docking that will be done by myself (well my vet) before 12 weeks which is provided for on the form either that or i have been conned. Quote Link to post
