Gaz_1989 9,539
Will they be kennelled? In the house? Separate? Apart? I've got 2 lurchers, dog and bitch kennelled side by side. It's a pain in the arse when she's in season. Crying and howling etc but it only lasts a week tops. Quote Link to post

That would be my reasoning for the spayed them being together. Quote Link to post
yorkshire-kid 44
I thought some one would jump at the chance to help some one new in the game. If it helps I'm interested in a whippet x something open to suggestions. and has anyone been in this situation and have any pointers so I can learn from other people's experiences and mistakes. I know every dog is different but will help me prepare for any problems that may arise. Quote Link to post
sandymere 8,263
What do you want the lurcher for ie type of ground, ferreting, lamping etc Quote Link to post
LaraCroft 863
It depends so much on the dog you already have ( personality etc ) and what you want the lurcher for. If the dog is entire, and you get a bitch, you will have to separate them for seasons, and may find the dog becomes difficult ( noisy, not eating etc ) when she is. If she is speyed, it won't affect her working ability. There have been many posts on here about keeping a terrier and a lurcher together - as always, some have had no problems, some have found they will fight. I don't leave mine alone in the house together when I am not there - they are crated - when I am there, they are all loose. I am careful with flash points like feeding and getting ready for walks. Careful introduction of a newbie to the group really helps them establish the new pecking order. Good luck Quote Link to post

Looks like maybe 2 dogs and hope the patt will take him under his wing an think of it as his pup aswel instead of an intruder Thanks again yorkshire-kid Quote Link to post
PhilProp 51
Hi I've had 2 dogs in the house before I've had dog and dog and dog and bitch but when the bitch was in season I never had much bother as my lurcher is 27 n had a small part. But kept an eye on incase. But the only reason I could house both dogs us I fully trust my lurcher with other dogs and I know him inside out but as long as you keep an eye on them and your dog now is ok with others and not possesive or territorial then you should be ok. But treat them both the same as they soon figure out ones gettin more than the other. Just use your common sense n I wish you luck Quote Link to post
yorkshire-kid 44
My dog seems a lot better with bitches and he can turn on the odd dog but never normally a bitch argh!!! Decisions hahaha I need the luck every one is wishing Quote Link to post
PhilProp 51
Lol u should be ok. I've introduced numerous dogs into my house and never had any trouble. I will mention also my lurchers are bullxs aswell so all the stuff about bullxs can't be together ain't true. Its how you bring a dog up in my opinion Quote Link to post
hillbilly boy 109
I would recommend you get a whippet bitch if the terrier is not 100% with other dogs he might not like you bringing another male into his territory 1 Quote Link to post
