What a strange thing to say then  hey if you drop it off i'll have it if you're not arsed about it anymore, not saying i'll work any magic but it'll have a good chance. As for my fat goldfish, he's got thyroid issues

Your not too keen to collect the dog then tarquin but you,d have it dropped in your lap..sounds like you might have thyroid problems  or maybe even seen a quid or two to be made',Badgercourt Breeding' over 1 of your bitches..££££,You could get your goldfish a tummy tuck :D But on a serious note nobody commented on the dogs shyness to the gun,its NO good if its gunshy when I need it to work with a gun,or am I wrong ive never had 1,but I have had lurchers what opened up when chasing and I have had terriers that wont stay until dug too and I have hunted hounds that weren't true to fox,i didn't breed from them,i didn't sell them on or give them away they went to doggy heaven, sorry if it sounds harsh but that's my way of doing things, otherwise I,d have a massive kennel of pets. :whistling:

Not really Doc Martin, if you seriously want rid then you can do the leg work. I can't afford to be travelling round the UK but i can offer a decent foster home to attempt to train him up, if he isn't any good then i can move him on to a good pet home no bother, but if he turns out alright, a nice addition to my beating/picking up team  Apologies for my outburst but when someone says they've had a dog PTS after about 3 days then that kind of pisses me off!! It's a relief to hear the dog is still alive.

Anyway, clearly you don't know me if you think i'd only be taking him on to make a quick buck, he could be Badgercourt or tennis court for all i care about lines or breeding  my bitch isn't KC reg anyway so there's that theory out the window

Just try and put some time into him and try and create a bond before you do anymore shooting over him, after you've gained his trust it will all fall into place

Cant believe what i am reading :wallbash:

As for being gunshy, if you create a bond with the dog (like what has been advised) he will trust you enough to disregard the shot and focus on you.

Why do some lads ask for help, but then not want to hear the advise

Now then Mr Martin,

All of a sudden I've got some free space in my kennel for a Spaniel and I also have somebody requiring a spaniel to take on shoot days/companion.So if you would be so kind as to pm me with your address I can come and collect the dog ( with a fee to be arranged ) and in so could kill two birds with one stone so to speak.

I also could post the lads a before and after video because I'm sure we would like to see a happy ending to such a stressful situation.

Take care..

will take a few weeks to build a bond with dog  as said mate get a rope for as far as you want him to range maybe get him on the whistle over time but dont over do it with him as it will do him no good,,,, when trust built,, then get a small cap gun, while walking him fire a few over him he'll soon pass no regards on the shot when out in field and if you are looking a dog to hunt pheasants and what ever else you've got one now they can be hard to get so try put plenty of time into him half an hour in morning and then the evening as then you wont be sickening him he could take more time or less i can't say as i dont no the dog ATB with it,,,,

Interesting topic to read back and proves there are some lessons to be learnt, why would you take a dog shooting within days of getting it?

Nervy dogs why is it nervy, it runs off when it comes back it's slinky, why it knows it's done wrong, what should the reaction be to a dog that has come back??

Im going to look at a racehorse tomorrow it's entered in a race on Saturday- would I race it? Or would I get to know it,? Know what it can do, know how fit it is, know it not gonna throw its rider.

Who said there is no such thing as a bad dog on here? Correct, dogs are what we make them or more important what we don't make them.

Kev well done for taking it on, it ill be in good hands, if you want a donation towards collecting it count me in.

I have a third hand ESS and she is a "challenge" bond, tick, sit tick, runs a long way in front tick, No shouting, no scruff dragging, just big field change direction loads of encouragement loads of praise and by the end of the summer she will have the ticks in all the right places. I was taught years ago a spaniels brain is mounted right on the end of the nose and one or the other works not both, understand that and that's part way to understanding this fantastic breed.
