DazAllison1 556
Looking for info on how I can get a list of estates in my area, I've searched in local phonebook etc but not much joy, I'm going to send them all a cover letter to see if I can gain an apprenticeship before its to late, I'm also going to offer myself volenteering to prove to any future employers I'm worth their wages, any info or help would be helpful, cheers Quote Link to post

Yep same...was looking into NC Gamekeeping at Elmwood college in Fife, sorted a placement out, went to look about student finance and found they don't offer anything for that course so in other words, i need to fund a year in Fife off my own back, plus tuition fees and the like....but since i'm currently unemployed that's impossible. Vicious circle! Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
Thing is mate there's no guarantee of jobs after it, iv done an NC in gamekeeping, SVQ leven 2 in gamekeeping and an HNC in gamekeeping and wildlife management along with other things iv done dmq, lantra quad lantra argocat the college didnt help me find a job after it or anyone else in my college for that matter, I'm lucky in the sense that I live on a big estate my father in laws the keeper on so my hands still in and I still get to do things but lads that I went to college with very few are keepers now, some because they were arseholes and some like myself were good lads that just didnt have any good opertunitys put I front of them or by no control of their own has been unlucky with which path was picked for them, my dad had me a plumber apprenticeship sorted but no I wanted to be a keeper, and some of the shit jobs iv done to pay bills over the years sometimes I wish I had of been, I say sometimes as I know sooner or later ill get where I want to be but the years seem to be flying past lol!! DazAllison1 556
When I 1st left school I was planning in doing a gamekeeping course but I was fortunate enough to get took on by an SPL club but got scrapped after my contract was up, I did an apprenticeship in greenkeeping and worked for a few years there but due to council cuts I was laid off, so now I think its my chance to give the gamekeeping a go and try seek employment, I would rather get a volunteer job 1st and prove my worth and try get took on as an underkeeper before enrolling in a course I think Quote Link to post
sikastag_1 689
Like I said daz good luck, you'll get a keeper that will let you help mate and teach you, but his boss won't create a job just because your a good grafter, hopefully you find a job mate but at the moment it's hard going. Best of luck lads Dan thanks Dan. It's dire as it stands mate, absolutely terrible. Every sector of the industry is feeling it. I know i've said in the past there's no way i'd work for free, but it's got that desperate now if someone put me up, fed me, fed the dogs and had a kennel spare for them, i'd have to consider it. STRANGER 948
What estates are looking for beaters stranger? Seen an advert in a local paper in Kirriemuir last week, shouldn't think it would be too difficult to find out which it is. Would mean staying with a load of filthy poles and even filthier smackheads from Forfar for 6 weeks tho! ATB Quote Link to post
