bobcullen79 1,495
Hi All.. Well after finally getting round to attempting a new blueing job, its fallen on its arse badly, to say the least... Not being 100% confident in a total strip down, I took the lazy half arsed route and removed as little as poss and applied the blue and rust remover, wow does that stuff work..., Piece of piss this is gonna be, so I thought.. Long and short of it is, Ive now a streaky, more rusty rifle then when I started and Im not happy. So, total strip down now, and a re-blue in parts. My question(s) are what does a tune involve and how hard is it to do? I have limited spinger knowledge (Used to strip down chinkys and add washers as a nipper) Thanks for any useful input... Bob. bobcullen79 1,495
Anyone? The 95 is safely in bits now, bit of rust on the piston, but the seal looks ok. Gonna give all the parts a good clean and degrease. Now I was gonna maybe order a new spring and piston, but Im unsure what to get, if I intend on getting the tuning kit, what parts does that come with? Also, whats best for cleaning/degreasing and then greasing back up? Thanks in advance.... Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
Tuning to make it smoother, rub piston down with wet and dry and wire wool to get it smooth and rust free, and basically just smooth the rifle out so its nicer to shoot with a vmach kit you get a spring spring guide tophat piston liner and piston seal. your gun might need a new breach seal aswell if its in bad condition. MOLY grease is the best bet for the spring, guide and on the piston, but not too much, if any gets infront of the piston seal the rifle will diesel I don't know much about re-blueing tho mate hope this helps mate SKoT Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
Nice one Skot. Explains a fair bit. The blueing is going much better this time round due to having it in bits. Breech seal looks sound, the rifle is only about 4 year old. But if I place an order, I might as well replace it. Dont spose you know the best place to get a vmach kit? I would have a quick search, but Ive got the gloves on doing the blueing... Fag break.. Quote Link to post
Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
I got mine from blackpool air rifles online www.airgunbuyer.com however Simon .. Pianoman on here has just got a tuning kit from Sandwell field sports and says its magnificent and for just shy of £50 I think you should give them a call and see what they say before you order a vmach my hw97kt was pretty smooth after I fettled it myself with the original weihrauch internals.. after installing the vmach kit I don't think there really is much difference.. especially £ worth.... 1 Quote Link to post

Mat2803 18
Iv used the birchwood and Casey super blue don't bother with the blue and rust remover I use wet and dry start with a 400 and work my way down too a 1500 then a fine wire wool then use the degreaser most important thing is there's not dirt or grease what so ever on the parts you want to blue or it will go patchey or brown. Then nock your socks off with the blueing compound Iv put a few pics on of a 95 that I blued One finished with the blue rub sum gun oil over it to protect it Took me a few attempts to get it right but when you do it's well worth the effort 5 Quote Link to post

Is there any difference between super blue and perma blue, from the same company?, I used the latter, and to be fair, its come out a lot better 2nd time round, but yours has inspired me to have another go.. After a fair bit of reading and not being able to source a grease I was happy with today, Ive gone and ordered the 95 service kit from Sandwell, should be here friday. Im the mean time Im gonna have another crack at the blueing and then give the piston and chamber a polish. Do you need a press to remove the cocking lever rivet?, I had a go with a hammer and small punch, but it didnt want to move and I didnt want to go too mental.. Thanks for the imput gents..
