Madcowz 0
I always liked liver. Yeah, but she is trying to catch a ferret, not a ditch Shitter! /Mad Quote Link to post
Hob&Jill 258
My mate lost one of his ferrets and caught it back with a rabbit leg tied onto the back of the cage. I would secure the bait if I were you, just so if somehow they manged to get in and drag the bait out the trap without it closing, very unlikely though. If the bait is tied in them the ferret will have to tugg about , surley setting it off. Like I said its highly unlikely that they wouldnt set it off, but no harm in tieing the the bait on. EDIT> Just had a thought. If your that worried then you could also feed your ferrets in the trap for a few nights with the trap door fixed shut. In theory they should associate the trap with food, meaning of you lose them and they see the trap, they will think 'food'. You might think they wouldnt remember, but one of my ferrets (the first ferret I got) if I put her on the ground outside her hutch, she will run inside the house! I think this is because when I first got her, I always used to bring her inside when I fed her, played with her, fussed her etc. She has escaped twice, and both times ended up in the kitchen (through the cat flap!) richie 1
ARTEMIS.... ive only ever had to set a trap once, got my self a new ferret and it was having none of me trying to pick it up, just kept darting back down the hole. after about half an hour of pissing about and concidering getting my 12 gauge out i decided to leave a trap near the last hole i saw her go down. went back a couple of hours later and bingo. but as ive said in a previous post i would never bait a trap to attract my ferrets as this will more than likely attract another creature that will set the trap off. all i do is stuff some of the bedding from the box that i use to carry my ferrets down the far end and cover it up with an old bit of sack. works for me.. richie Quote Link to post

gnipper 6,547
I'm presuming that you feed dry food Artemis? If so and not rabbit etc then carcase bait might not work if they aren't used to it. I'm sure you will find out what their favourite treats are for just in case they ever do need trapping. I wouldn't try it on them though or let them get accustomed to it, if they know they get stuck in it they'll probably avoid it and if they are used to it their inquisitiveness might not help you catch them. Guest ilderfryd
I have had luck with a trap like that. Some months ago one of my boys disapeard. He is not neutered, so I went for a walk in the area with one of my not neutered jills, and then sat up a trap like yours with dry food in. The next morning my ferret sat in the trap and was very happy to see me. Quote Link to post
