blackmaggie 3,377
Ray you should put a post up offering Bryn for Stud. He's a fine dog. . . my little Molly likes him .. If I ever wanted a litter for myself I would definately use him. Same goes for Jim's Snipe.. propper working dogs. why would anyone want to use an unproven and unworked Hancock stud dog is beyond me when theres such good dogs out there being worked season after season. your right vin i would travel any distance and pay good money to use dogs like bryn / snipe / or andys don if i had a bitch that was worth breeding from and if not i would try a source a pup from theses dogs as soon as any stud took place and why lads use hancock is beyond me surely your better with something thats well tested week in week out like theses dogs are than something thats never seen a day or nights work Quote Link to post

lurchers4life 103
I've got 2 gamecocks one dog one bitch the dog was my first ever lurcher but down to my inexperience I never consentrated on retrieving wich has let the dog down my fault tho is now my house pet for the misses but my bitch is in my eyes a real good dog had 3 seasons now and she is spot on not a fault in her and during the season she's out at least twice a week on the lamp the most I've took with her is 29 in one night but nights like that are few and far between and me not having anyone decent to come with me over the 3 seasons I haven't got the money to be putting 50 quid a night in the car to get to these places that hold nights of 50-60 rabbits Quote Link to post

C Hall 552
These hancock threads don't half drag on Some very interesting points of view I don't like the sound of some dogs choosing runs after a few seasons Ive nothing against hancock or his methods infact I say best of luck to the man he makes a lot of his customers very happy but I would much rather source a collie cross bred dog from lines which have been tested for a few generations with lads who are getting out there and doing it week in week out season after season 3 Quote Link to post

I've owned two Hancock dogs, though neither came direct and both were many moons ago. Both were very good work wise but one was 'very' needy in the kennel and the other was a bit rough around smaller dogs (fecking liability!) so we parted ways. I often think i'd try another, especially for the fact that I could rear it myself and get the best out of it BUT that picking and choosing runs collie stuff... I'd never take that gamble... border lad 1,047
when you talk, about picking runs, I have a Saluki x he is 3 years old, when it comes to Hares or Roe, he is switched on full alert, rabbits he sometimes stalking, this is daylight, and the Dog has never been over run, ((( I dont believe in emptying his tank, I have owned a lot of collie crosses in my early years, they were always good for putting meat on the table, all the so called bad points about the colli x I personally never encountered, ONLY READ ABOUT THEM ON T,H,L, Quote Link to post
Cleanspade 3,324
ive had a couple of hancock dogs both came as young adults. both could work as good as most lurchers. neither picked there runs. both exelled on other stuff preban. they where hardy dogs and could take a knock. they where three eighths five eighths. border/beardie. they where twentyseven inch tts. the only downside was they would have needed an extra gear for hare . thats if you gave fair law. but would take the odd one if they put em up. i would try another if i came across one but wouldnt go to the kennels for it. Ideation 8,216
Out of interest, apart from the two that I know of, including tjones on here. Do any folk have dogs that were bred out of hancock dogs, and not direct from him. Just seems like there are very few that go to be bred from, for all of those that are out there. Not a dog, just a question. Quote Link to post
