How To Start My Lurchers

Hi, I recently got 2 lurchers, theyre both 9 week old littermates, theyre weaton, bull, collie, greyhound. absolutely fantastic little dogs. they don't have any interest in chasing balls yet, but will chase someone round a field forever. how should I start them getting the instinct so that when theyre old enough it will be easier for them

If you dont have the answer to that then you shouldnt have 2 pups.

that's why im asking, have lots of experience with dogs, just not puppies that are going to be workers

there 9 weeks mate let them do what 9 week old pups do eat,play,sleep

Why would someone who hasnt got a clue try to start off with two pups???

I might sound harsh but sell or give away one of them and concentrate on the one you have left. It will be a lot easier all round.

i'd agree with putting your time into one of the pups. to get the best out of any pup demands loads of time and i doubt you'll get the best trying to bring two on at the same time. just aint gonna happen

Not old enough to be out in the fields until they are fully innoculated,but when they are get them out in amongst the livestock,probably best to take them one at a time,as far as recall etc is concerned you will have plenty of time to put the work in,like has already been said you dont teach instinct,you've got your work cut out for you bringing two on at once,and you will learn a lot with the pups,atb

thanks, yeah im not going to take them out together, or feed them together etc, helps not make them dependant on eachother

I agree. Pups together have always got someone to play with and learn to gallop. Greyhound rearers rear whole litters together.The competition toughens them up.
