Bull/grey/collie/grey can make exceptionally good all-round type dogs

For a true alrounder i,d always go for 3/4 sight hound with a 1/4 of what suits you, a true all rounder needs speed a plenty for some jobs ;) and some 1/2 crosses just dont have it, i also think you need somthing that makes 24 inch plus, and thats from a bloke with a 21inch 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddy  , regards, buster.

Too late - I got 2 here.... colour of a collie, brains of a greyhound, weather-coping ability of a whippet... :cray:

Half cross, three quarter, or three eights five eights, if you had to choose one to do everything anywhere, which one and why?

I think you mean type.If Im wrong please say. I prefer the half cross type of Bull/Greyhound because they perform the way I like and they dont break as easy as the 3/4 type. We have a bitch that is a 3/4 bred dog on paper but who is a 1/2 cross in type. It depends on the quarry you want to pursue the most. The best way to fine tune is to breed from roughly the type you like and then in time select the best for you. For communication sake I understand what someone is trying to put over when they give me a fraction. So it does serve a purpose in Lurcher discussion to mention fractions as long has we remember its really type and not exact gene formation although it usually comes about right in shape at least, when there are only two pure breeds involved.

Yes Jeemes it would have to be on type as you say.I did think the three eights type would've had more advocates sitting between the two others as it does, havin said that though I've seen some pretty big variations in that type
