I was using car window tint on my NiteSite NS50 ages before NiteSite decided to include in kit. Cheapest way is to just ask the window tint company for some small samples, the do some colours but I just went for black tint.

I would advise a red film given that most animals of the dog family and rabbits don't see well at the red end of the spectrum:

A simple smoke colour film whilst reducing light will still leave the light readily viewable by the prey, not least because most of the animals you're going to be concerned with are nocturnal eg foxes, rabbits and so have very good low light vision and sensitivity to low levels of light.

By shifting the light to the red end of the spectrum, not only do you reduce the brightness, but also the visibility due to the poor colour vision of the above target species at this end.
