Simoman 110
My granddad (as I'm sure many members granddad's) was part of the brave men who stormed the beaches on D day. He rarely talked about it, the only things I knew about were the german daggers I used to play with as a kid, knives he took from German soldiers. He also went to the cinema once in his life, to see the film Saving Private Ryan, he said the opening scenes were very accurate. He died in 2000 and I only got to know about his real involvement from a letter he wrote (which I have scanned and posted on here several years ago) detailing his involvement in the D day landings and the liberation of Bergen-Belsen and the arrest of Irma Grese............Real hero's and men's men

I genuinely believe that if we were faced with a situation like WW2 again things would be no different. We would fight and succeed because we wouldn't have a choice. The young lads of Britain are as keen for a scrap as they were in the 40's and our engineers and lab coats are just as inginuitive. It's not like modern war where we really don't strictly need to get involved, back then it was fight or be invaded. If for aguments sake the Arab world united and was hammering at the door gradually invading Europe and heading westward with momentum do people really think we would just crumble? Nah, we would fight for the common cause just like in the 40's. the only thing we would need to find would be leaders with the constitution for world war. I have no doubt they would be found in such a desperate situation. Maybe I have too much faith in my countrymen but I 100% believe that.
