I have been very keen to get into the terriers for a few years now so 8 months ago I got hold of the local hunt terrier man and got myself a lovely little Russell cross dog. His breeding was mainly Russell but the line was crossed out to a black dog 4 generations previously and he was almost completely black. He was coming on lovely and had finished his growing, he was tiny in the chest, long in the leg and very strong willed but a proper gentleman of a terrier (always politely introduced himself before trying to shag the life out of any bitch in sight!!). I have been sooo excited to get him going next season and it was plain to see he wouldn't need much encouragement when the time arrived but last week I took him to the vets as his left eye had been looking very sore, the vet at first thought he had a small infection so he was given a course of antibiotics but nothing was gained so back he went. This time a small lump had formed under the eye and on closer inspection the vet spotted some swelling around his back left teeth on his upper jaw so it was decided that further investigation was required. The following day Jet was knocked out and had his three back teeth removed and the vets verdict was an abcess and he was happy the minor op had gone well and all would be fine very soon. As a precaution he sent the teeth and abcess off to the lab for testing (this was on the Friday), the following Thursday my girlfriend received a call from the vet informing her that Jet had a very aggressive cancerous brain tumor and we were to think about his future. So on the Friday we took the little man into the vet and did the kindest (hardest) thing so little Jet was put to sleep at just 10 months of age and its fair to say I am completely gutted!!
