DazAllison1 556
I think most coursing dogs before the salukis were mainly deerhound Xs mate Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
Did anyone run 3/4 grey 1/4 beddy on hare Preban? How did they do? I imagine they would lack stamina? I think my dog of this breeding would be fast at them and kill them quick. But obviously I'm never gonna get chance to find out now unless the ban is lifted Quote Link to post
darbo 4,776
Some of the old lads in my area used to run deerhound crosses on the hares in the 60s and 70s mainly 3/4 breds. nuttall of clitheroe lancs used to bred them back in the day.some would use whippet/greys not comp dogs just dogs run on a sunday morning first light one for the pot types .also used for mooching and ferreting. some relaxation away from the family and work.just old lads many did not have transport and were happy to put a few in the bag.spent many happy times talking to blokes like this when i was young. 3 Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
Beddy cross won draxs, bred in north Yorkshire.patleybridge. Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
I'd say it's mostly agreed that here in Ireland before the saluki came along that the best lads with the best dogs were using Irish terrier crosses or Deerhound crosses. Mind you, JK had a bitch back in the 80s called "Chorus" who had a big reputation and she had beagle in her. Quote Link to post

But obviously I'm never gonna get chance to find out now unless the ban is lifted I used to run a first cross as a coursing dog,she was 23tts and mad keen, always made sure she was very fit,and she could stay on a bit Edited June 5, 2013 by low plains drifter 1 Quote Link to post
Whiskey 28
Seen a very nice deerhound x greyhound x whippet/greyhound course mint if you happy with 1 or 2 good runs most 3/4 will catch one but if you want out and out hare dog 3out3 or you are coursing mad need that salukie stamina Quote Link to post
davey 310
So what your saying is only sul x's can do 3s ? Surely not !! Someone must have had dogs to do that , you ain't telling me comps were won on 1's and 2's plus I've seen photos of my old mans dogs in early 80's with brace of roe and couple of hare but he was never ones for comps but ran his deer x's all over south downs Quote Link to post
low plains drifter 10,706
There must be any amount of dogs without any saluki blood in them that can catch 3 hares, but when it comes to catching high numbers of hares that are run regular, well the fen videos say it all Quote Link to post
