Skot Ruthless Teale 1,701
I'm really pleased that you're happy with the results, Simon. As Scot's already mentioned, have you tried JSBs through it? They tend to be pretty bloody good with HWs. Give me a call soon, mate. We need to get out and you'll love this new permission I told you about. I was there yesterday and Oscar scored himself eight rabbits with the Xocet that was kindly given to my boys by the Moles. Speak soon. there spot on in both my hw97kt .177 and my hw95k in .177 at 4.52 need to get hold of some .177 FTT to try in my KT and that permission sounds great, my mate had an xocet when I had a supersport a good few years back. the supersport was better but the xocet was still a cracking little gun SKoT 1 Quote Link to post
Thoreau 2
If you're getting fliers and poor groups with H&N FTT's why are they pellet of choice? What pellets did you try? Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
I'm sorry Thoreau, did I say these were producing poor groups? They are the pellet of choice because the groups are as accurate as it gets When these H&N FTTs are fine and as they should be, they are absolutely blistering accurate. It's the odd inconsistency of a few pellets in the batch that produces fliers. Weighing and careful checking should sort that problem out. I tried JSB EXACT as well as quite a few of the popular brands that have a good history with Weihrauch barrels. RWS SUPERFIELD. RWS SUPERDOMES. AIR ARMS DIABLO FIELD 4.52 AIR ARMS DIABLO FIELD 4.51. BISLEY MAGNUM = Very accurate but I was warned of 'piston bounce' and internal damage caused with these in a spring rifle. I'm no techie but the advice came from good sources. But then again, I saw a youtube vid by HuntersVermin David James using his .177 HW97KT with Bisley magnum to great effect on targets and live feather! So who knows what there! WEIHRAUCH MAGNUM (H&N BARRACUDA) DAYSTATE Li. All were thoroughly tested and found of no use. But that may be a factor of head size.. I think if I can get these JSB EXACT in 4.50mm head size, they might yet prove a real winner! If they are match winning accurate and consistent I'll be a very well satisfied man. Thanks for your response. Simon Andy hi! I'll be in touch mate. Looking forward to a session on this new permission of yours with Oscar and Toby too if the boys are about! The rifle's bedding in superbly well mate. I'm very happy with how it's coming on. Best wishes to you and the boys Andy. Simon Edited June 4, 2013 by pianoman 1 Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
I'm really not convinced about this 'piston bounce' thing with heavy pellets but then I'm no expert. I've had very good results with the Mags and Baracudas (same thing) with .177 springers. Give them a try if they work Edit to add... I have some Mags that you can try the next time we hook up. pianoman 3,587
Well Andy, if you are sure about Bisley magnum, (and you are a lot more bloody expert than I am!) then I'll go back to trying them. They were very accurate when I first tried them; and they would make a superb hunting pellet for the rifle. 1 Quote Link to post
Thoreau 2
Accupells/premiers mate. What you say about ftts would be enough for me to ditch them and move on. I ain't sifting and sorting a tin of expensive lead, I want quality and reliability when I pay for it. Plenty of other reputable brands out there. Get yourself a sample pack off ebay. It's not so much that it's pellet fussy exactly, it's more to do with Simon being a perfectionist. 3 Quote Link to post
Elliott 436
Hi Simon, glad you're getting on the the 97K. I haven't forgotten your question re the stain used on the stock. I'll possibly have an answer for you by this weekend With regards to the H&N FTT, have you considered trying Weihrauch's brand of pellets? If memory serves they have called 'Field Target Special' (FTS) and are very similar, if not identical to FTT. Perhaps they are produced or sorted to a higher standard than FTT? I've used them in the past to good effect, maybe worth a try; here's a link: http://mobile.uttings.co.uk/Product/1006/103729/weihrauch-field-target-special-177-pellets-x-500-hwp177fts/ Edited June 4, 2013 by Elliott Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Cheers Elliott. And that type of wood-stain would be really helpful mate. The stock is handling absolutely lovely now. But I need to hide and blend the reshaping of the grip I've done. She definitely loves an 8.64 grain, 4.50mm head-sized diablo pellet. Show me one in these regards and I'm all for trying it. Best wishes Elliott. Simon Quote Link to post
Elliott 436
Give them a try Simon, you may be pleasantly surprised Quote Link to post
