Could Never Shoot A O/u As Good As Semi's

Recommended Posts

It has yo be said baikel make a extremely good shotgun for the price they go for.

And the have the longest lasting blueing of any shotgun apparently.

As for gun fit i have held some guns that don't sit right. cast off to far and comb to high or to low.

My mate has had a few Semi's and can't get on with them but he is rather short and when he went for lessons he was told the gun is way to big and that's coming from a guy with 40year's experience in teaching.

I have George digweed clay coaching dvd he claims in it he doesn't think a gun has to fit but the user must learn to shoot it which i don't agree with as per say you had been shooting a gun for several years and then you decide to go for a gun that didn't fell as natural as your previous one and it took a few month to learn to use it, when you could have just changed it for one which fitted !!!!!! And could hit target's straight away.

the reason that the OP shoots better with an semi auto is probably because they are normally significantly muzzle heavy I bet if he tryed an O/U with 32" heavy barrels hed shoot that well too

I personally agree with digweed there because after a while your mount will adjust so that you shoot straight with that particular gun

My first shottie was a Laurona far too short and the comb too low but I could shoot it straight because my mount had adapted so that my eye was aligned with the rib - the trouble with this was that my cheek wasnt hard down on the comb so I used to get a hell of a bruise

I think if a gun does "fit" you it will help you to shoot it better because if a gun fits you it gives you the best flexibility and everything but If your gun doesnt fit you but you still mount so your eyes in the right place then you can shoot it straight you just a bit more restricted

As others have said I think the gun does matter, I have two Biakel singles, Exactly the same gun, same choke, same shells, One has had the barrel and stock shortened which was done professionally but I cant hit shit with that one. I only bought it because it cost me £15 and its handy to have on a sling when I am out with the air rifle

I would be prepared to put a large amount of cash on the fact that mr Digweeds guns fit him :icon_eek:
